That'll do. Giroud back scoring, Theo got minutes, Rosicky back too. A win against a top4 rival (which right now they are), clean sheet (so far!), Liverpool only drew, AND Sheffield United won. What a great day
I know the game isn't over yet, but a win was crucial for us today with the teams below us all playing each other, i.e. Everton vs Liverpool and Sp*rs vs City.
Love the way we are using Moreal late on to see out games. When he comes on we basically shut down that left hand side with Gibbs and Monreal.
Good result, job well done ahead of the Marseille game. Southampton played well, but taking Lallana off was a poor move.
FT. That was tough. I think Southampton will definitely be challenging for at least top 6-7 if not higher this season.
Good result, puts us 4 points clear at the top of the table even if Chelsea beat West Ham. Our next few fixtures will be really important as we want to make sure we still have a strong lead at the top of the table by the time we play Chelsea and City. It was a tough game today but we defended well, created opportunities and took advantage of some lapses from Southampton. I said it at half time and he continued in the second half, Giroud was a boss. He dominated, won everyting, controled the ball well, played it on quickly, defended well, did well not to foul the keeper for the first and then a well taken penalty for the second. He had an all round great game. He now has 10 goals in less than half a season, if he does as well for the rest of the season i'll be really pleased with him. Southampton closed well, worked hard and had some opportunities and i think they may manage to remain in a european spot. They made it difficult for us but another clean sheet and another 3 points. More players returning from injury and we are looking trong.
That table looks pretty nice for you. Good win for you, not too disappointed. We took some chances and not just Boruc. Can't see West Ham doing either of us a favour this evening. If you discount howlers we've conceded about 1 goal
"He's too slow, he turns like an oil tanker" etc. Football isn't just abut pace, if you're intelligent enough, you can still succeed, and what Mert lacks in pace, he more than makes up for it in brainpower. Hasn't been an arsenal CB so good at reading the game since Tony Adams, and he was hardly quick either.
Yup. Same thing with Pirlo.. he may be older and may not be the greatest athletically but his intelligence is worth more than his weight in gold.
Great win today. As for Mert and his pace, I think it's become clear now, that that isn't really a problem. What he lacks in pace, he makes up in SIZE, the guy just has to stick his foot out. He also makes up for a lack of pace with positioning and intelligence. You look at sides like Dortmund, Liverpool, these are teams with agile and pacy players, yet we kept 2 clean sheets against them, and another one today against a good Southampton side.
