Lol - let me guess, Gerrard was our MOTM? Johnson is the best right back in the world?

I know we want sakho in but I think kolo should be too for leadership purposes.

Dave, jimmy made some fair points in there, especially about our midfield.

Not sure if it was agent or player but someone saw $$$$$ and jumped at it. Think he regrets that decision as he has been in the wilderness. Hopefully we are his lifeline back!

Absolutely - the way I see it is:

1st transfer window - Rodgers still getting feet under the table, didn;t have the committee to consult with and bought a couple of players he was familiar with.

2nd - addressed our attack with Coutinho and Sturridge.

3rd - addressed our defence with Sakho and Toure.

Slowly but surely, we're making good progress.

I agree - despite Skrtel's good form, I'd really like to see a duo of Toure and Sahko.

Shift Johnson to LB too, I've always thought when he played there he looked a lot more assured. Flanagan for me deserves to be in the team next week, give him a go at RB.

To be honest, he was desperate to leave Rennes, but he didnt have many offers from big clubs - I remember QPR and Newcastle were interested but Rubin Kazan offered him good money (£72k after taxes I believe).

Spent a year there, calmed down, worked on his attitude, earnt his money - time for to get back into the big leagues.

Completely agree mate - we are, and our signing have been largely good. Great to see Coutinho scoring too.

His biggest test is managing Gerrard as he reaches retirement. Needs to make sure he doesn't rub people up the wrong way, but also be bold enough not to play him if he's not up to it.

Personally I think we need a replacement and start playing Stevie less in order to get the best out of him and not burn him out.

I'm sure Rodgers is looking at midfielders in January and once we bring in a couple in January, he'll be able to manage him a lot easier. <ok>

Was he actually at the game then?

Or was it a bloke who looked a bit like him?

Yep - there's a few pictures on Twitter. Definitely him.

Apparently he was suspended for today's game for Rubin, but am I right in thinking players should still attend games? Bit naughty of him to skip their game to come see ours instead? ... either way, I'm happy!

Mate I'm with you on this - Would be made up if we signed him. Maybe there's something going on behind the scenes? Earlier the better, ala Sturridge. <ok>

Well Buck Rodgers has hinted he's on the look out <ok>

I don't really know a lot about him. Take it he's good enough then? Better than Downing?!

Could be reading too much into it but he's also best mates with Sakho and share the same agent.

He's a defensive midfielder, but has the ability to dictate the tempo. Physical, wins the ball, reads the game but also has the technical ability to pick passes. Surprisingly, he doesn't make too many slide challenges but that's down to his fantastic reading of the game.

Was seen as such a top class talent in world football, similar to Sakho - however, off the field problems deterred other teams from signing him. I believe Wenger was a big fan but felt his attitude was poor so decided against it. Moved to Rubin Kazan where fatherhood and being away from the spotlight has helped mature him.

Haven't seen him too much since his move, but he was an absolute beast for Rennes and France. Safe to say he's better than Downing <laugh> Massive build but very composed on the ball, good eye for a pass. He could be extremely good alongside Gerrard.

More to challenge Lucas for DM rather than replacing Gerrard. Hopefully we'll still be exploring other options for the former.

In addition, Blanc (when he was managing the French national team) had plans of building the team around both Sakho and M'Vila. He is highly rated and the type who fits our transfer policy.

Humm. Lucas needs competition, and although he still has a lot to offer, his position (and Gerrard's) are area's where there is room for improvement.

Be it the starting place or depth in general.
