There is no doubt in my mind that Luka will be courted as we speak, and throughout the whole summer, by several big clubs. He is a top player and i don't mean Harry's version of 'top player'. Luka is one of the best CM's in the Premier League if you look around. Only Fabregas is better by a slight margin, a different player to Luka anyway. These type of players are in demand as they are a rare breed. Naturally, Man Utd, for example, will look at Luka and see that his best years are ahead of him, that he has adapted and flourished in both the PL and the CL. As it happens Luka's prominence comes about at the same time that the Man Utd team are in a transitional phase, in particular in need of a CM. A replacement for Scholes.

Man Utd being a global team are the pinnacle of a footballers career. Prestigious history, best club manager of all time arguably, almost guaranteed success. The player on top gets his wages doubled, his 'economic value' increases and he gets to fulfill his dreams of winning trophy's.

What i believe will keep Luka at Tottenham for at least one more year is his humble nature. He is genuinely grateful to Spurs for the platform, if you like, that they've given him. He will not just turn the back on the club after what was not even a disappointing season, all things considered. Harry seems ambitious and his enthusiasm is infectious as we can tell by the transformation Spurs undertook under his tenure thus far. He will convince Modric to stay one more year, just in time for Harry himself to bail ship for England.

It boils down to the ambition Spurs show from now until the end of next season. If we make fourth spot next year the whole perspective will change again. In the meantime we could collect a cup further cementing the notion that Spurs are a team on the up and the place to be for good players.

I dont think anybody could begrudge Luka a move come the end of next season if Tottenham were to miss out on fourth again?

I hope my instincts are right here

    Well said ASC.

Although if Utd put in a big bid, i expect Luka to tell the club he wants to leave. I don't think he would sulk or go on strike like Berbatov did but we can't keep hold of a player that doesn't want to stay.

I'm not sure what to make of this anymore. It will be very dissapointing if he does leave after saying that he wanted to stay.Looks like another nervous summer for us Spurs fans.

    <cheers> CS

It would have to be some offer to get past Levy though. Anything under 30m is not worth taking to the table. Should that bid come i would be very surprised to see Luka then throw a hissy fit. It just goes against everything he has said and done in the past. He is a great professional and one that feels indebted to Spurs, and the least he could do is to help them with one last throw of the dice at the champions league.

I hope you are right, but the pessimist in me thinks a bid of £30,000,000 + just may sway levy into considering selling.

Modric is the most important player for us, IMO.
To lose him would be a backwards step and we'd struggle to get back in the CL without him.

I genuinely think he will stay, though, so I'm not too worried. He's quite young and doesn't look like he's after more money. Theres no rush for him to go yet.

Modric isn,t the problem, you have to consider who,s advising him as they will all be in for a percentage of any fee.

Its being reportd today that City would treble Modrics wages of 55000 pounds. Thats the problem for us. Whether Modders is on 55k is not the issue. The fact that he can get up to 150000 per week makes it a very, very attractive proposition. How many of us would refuse a 100% wage increase ?

Th more i think about it, the more I realise that we will NEVER compete with the "biggest" clubs, simply because of our financial restrictions.

Like it or not we need to have a lot more money available in order to really compete.
    Sad but true.

Sad but true! Hmm! Providing you ignore the Uefa rule changes coming in 2012/13 which will prevent clubs from living beyond their 'profit' means. Provided you ignore the fact that players want to play, most on them do not want to sit on a diamond encrusted bench holding a large pay packet.

Only 11 players are on the pitch and that in itself is a natural restriction on how many players a club like Man C. can buy.

Does anyone else get the impression that most of the Gooners who come on our board are little kids? And not even clever little kids, but kind of little kids who bunk off school to shop-lifting at the local Seven Eleven; the kind of kids that sit at the back of the remedial class and make pen-drawings of one another's cocks which they pass among each other with relish. You know the kind: really thick kids.

Am I the only one who gets that impression?

I think the whole Modric issue is the result of one of 2 factors:

    1. He actually want to leave despite him previously saying he is very happy at Spurs and wants to continue playing for us.
    - this would be very frustrating as he would kinda be going back on his word, and as lots of us have said on here, he is vital to the way our team operates.

    2. Modric is being very clever, and due to him knowing how instrumental he is to our team, by sparking these rumours of him being prepared to leave, he is forcing Levy et al to dig deep and bring in some top quality players that will move the club forwards.
    - this is what I am hoping for. If this is what he is doing then he is a very clever man. It is effectively like handing in an ultimatum on FM (or ChampMan for the oldies) - "sign some decent, well known, top quality players to play on the team with me or I will look elsewhere..."

Hopefully the media are blowing this out of proportion and reusing quotes to rehash old and meaningless stories and Modders will be with us for at least another season... However, there isn't smoke without fire, and if we don't sign some quality soon, I think this rumour will just gather pace!

You didn't really need to resurrect a 4 day old article for that.

I think Ebar is a wum.

Everytime I see his name he seems to be negative or winding people up about Spurs.

Odd behaviour if he really is a fan.

I also think he will be leaving and have done since SAF first mentioned him last summer.

    I am not Croat.

Sorry if u are a genuine fan but I don't understand why you are so negative.
