I'm a sandbox gamer myself. I'm really not that keen on overly linear games.

Want to just mooch around the map and explore? Go for it. Want to go kill something? Do it. Want to parachute off a skyscraper? Yay!

Right now in the modded GTA4 some clever clogs has produced a mod that allows you to invest in Burger Shot, car dealerships and so on - think you can do that in GTA 5 not sure. You can hire and fire employees and it turns Nico from assassin into legitimate business dude by the end of the game.

That's why I play modded games. Oh, and the Aston Martin DB5 <laugh>

Disagree from a few pages back with aber about having to spend lots on a decent gaming machine. The PS4 is £350, I could build a computer for around the same price that does the same job (ok maybe a little more because games are designed to get the most out of consoles, but not the case on PC).

I have to disagree with others though about PC games being cheaper. Yes they are cheaper to buy, and Steam and Origin always have sales etc, but you can't trade them! Quite often you could buy a brand new 360 game for £40, finish it in a week or so and trade it in for around £20-£25 of credit, or sell on ebay for a bit more. If you spend £30 on a PC game and it's **** you're stuck with it. An example of this is I bought that arcade game called Monaco a few months ago because it had really good reviews. Think I paid around £15-£20 for it and I played it for half hour and was bored so that was that. I have about 200 odd games on Steam, and I've probably never even installed 50 of them, just bought them because they were dirt cheap or in a pack.

Free to play games are making a big intro onto XOne and PS4 next year. I saw a couple were lined up (all MMOs I think).

P.S. Xbox coming between 9.49 and 10.49 today woo hooooooo.

Popped home from work in the delivery slot they gave me and got it. Unboxed and had a look but that's about it. Yes it is big but I think it's quite good looking. Matches my other boxes and tv <ok>. Just gotta wait til half 4 now...

I'm with you there. I do love my linear FPS too, I must admit but my ideal game is one where I can explore, take my time and just have fun. Check out "Sir, You Are Being Hunted", it's great and very amusing. What's your favourite sandbox game? I love stuff like the Stalker games.

This has become a real "problem" for me with all the Humble Bundles! I reckon I've played a quarter of them, if that.

At least it goes to a good cause. Generally I'm a stingy bugger and will donate $1, or whatever the minimum is if I want the premium games.

I'd like to say I'll check out that "Sir, you are being hunted" but I don't think I'll have the time now!

Skyrim all the way for me. Nothing comes close. I've played it through about 10 times and never had the same experience. As much as I love GTA, the characters are the characters. With Skyrim you can taylor your guy/ girl every time for a different gaming experience. Just like Fallout.

NJ - Unfortunately, as I'm no longer Windows'ed it may be some time (if ever) before I can try Skyrim and Fallout. They both look great too.

Awaiting reports of these new consoles....

Hi Guys, spotted this thread and hoped I'd get some informed/expert advice. I'd guess so reading some of the posts. You're using words and terms I never knew existed!

Anyway, by comparison my request looks simple. I'm not a gamer so that isn't my priority. I have two laptops, a PC and a Samsung smartphone but my family insist I get a tablet. I have narrowed my search down to a choice of two. First is a Kindle Fire HD which is new, and the other is a refurbished 64g Blackberry tablet. Both about the same price.

I will download the odd few games but basically I just want to surf the web and email on the move, download some books and use some basic functions such as You tube plus the usual stuff with music, camera and pics etc. I have done some research but got lost with the technical jargon. So, what I'm hoping is to get some opinions between my choices perhaps explaining the pros and cons in language that a techno village idiot like me can understand.

Hope you can help and feel free to suggest any alternatives bearing in mind that I can pick up either of the above for less than a £100. Seems like a bargain to me.

I've got a nexus 7, using it now. Good tablet not too pricy, a lot cheaper than an iPad.

Big nerd here, me games lots everydays.

Farcry 3, lots of RPGs ... some oldtimers there like Baldurs Gate enhanced edition. I love RTS games like Red Alert and C&C.

Dont play much online though, been trying to get into Hearthstone beta, it caught my interest ... but no luck.

3 best games ever for me:

    1. Planescape Torment.

    2. Mass Effect triology

    3. Dungeon Keeper.
