The contenders were: Leicester Dundee Hull Swansea Bay And the winner was: Hull What the **** does this tell you about the other three contenders? They must all be complete ****holes, because Hull is a ****ing hellhole. Anyone had any experience of these places and if so, what are your views? Can you think of any worse cities to have been nominated, apart from Manchester, of course? Culture
Hull isn't that bad. It's had some unwarranted bad press over the years, but it's actually an alright place these days. Like all cities it's got it's ****ty areas, but it's also got some lovely areas within few miles of the City.
Leicester?? My mum is from there so I go quite often to see that side of the family - culture is the not the word I would associate with that city.
Not anymore mate, the fishing industry is dead in Hull, it's Grimsby that stinks of fish (& so do the women) now that is a hell hole of a place! I've got a soft spot for Hull as I lived in the City for a few years & I'm not a million miles away from it now.
Fazackerley Liverpool was European City of Culture a few years back. But we have more listed buildings than anywhere outside London, an iconic history and many, many famous sons and daughters. I'm off for a spot of googling
I remember getting the train into Dundee once and as you run along the far side of the river and look across to the city it just looks like the grimmest place on gods earth. Kind of cool in a Dickensian sort of way. Hull's alright really but as with many cities on this fair isle it's suffered from the lack of investment that has affected everybody outside the London bubble.
Dear, dear. Joe Longthorne, Amy Johnson and William Wilberforce. Suppose the latter was a pretty important bloke
a lot of things now days are pr bollocks related, they have either been given a good back hander from the tax payers of Hull via the dirty council to promote the tourism for them, or a torie mp is about to lose their seat and trying to make out they are doing something. probably not lol, but i bet my theory isnt far off.
I'm not sure any of the above listed cities have enough money to be offering back handers....and apart from Leicester I doubt they've ever heard the phrase "Tory MP"
I've just read a piece in the Telegraph about Hull and City of Culture written by a journalist who went to uni there and is singing it's praises. I have been to Hull but it was a while ago and it was to watch a basketball game so only went to the venue and home and can't really comment on the city. What was interesting were the comments below the article with most singing it's praises until a 'fight' broke out between someone who used to live and work in Hull - insisting that Hull was a slave port - and another commenter [where from can't remember]. He just won't have it that Hull was never a slave port but cites a pub called the Black Boy as evidence! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/c...62862/Hull-Why-I-adore-this-unloved-city.html
Hull have spent a hell of a lot of money over the last few years and is much better than it used to be. Maybe you should try looking at things outside the pub
You should know. They gave you a bigger title didn't they. Incidently, I was in Liverpool earlier this year. I loved all the stuff around the riverside. I did laugh at the Everton clubshop though. What was it called Everton 2 (within Liverpool 1).
i lived in Reading for about a week once, years ago, was some right weird ****ers that lived there back then. never went to the festival though sadly, any good? also you can see why Reading is right near the main motorway, so its easy to escape lol.
