I don't know about Saga being rip-off merchants - I swapped to them for car insurance a couple of years ago after doing the rounds of the so-called cheap ones (Admiral, Churchill etc) for a few years. My last renewal quote from Churchill for my 4WD went up to £380 & I swapped when Saga quoted me £165. I've changed cars since then - bought a newer 4WD with a far larger motor and have just renewed this month for £212. Their quote for house insurance was the same as I currently pay though...

It really pays to shop around for stuff like insurance, you can get big savings with a bit of research and those comparison web-sites.

And to haggle. Every policy I,ve got cost less than the quote because I argued from the starting point of what I paid last year and what was a reasonable increase. Sometimes they offered extras for less than I had paid before.

BB, it's quite coincidental but we actually moved from there to come to Gloucester over 2 and half years ago! So we know exactly what to expect and where to get the butteries, white puddings and square sausage ;).

It is closer to the Vic and a clearer run through except when you have to drive past the 'scum town' <laugh>

No OFH, same job! The other half finishes in Paris in 2 months and that will be her in her last 6 months in the RAF<yikes> she wants to nearer the grand kids, which is understandable and I will be home every 4 days after my shift at Brize;) our plan is to retire from the RAF there and see what happens Civvy street. She just needs to find a job in late spring/early summer to see her through to her old age, or should I say older age<laugh>

Morning all from a chilly but dry bandit country. Just dropped daughter off at the station, she is off to Liverpool this afternoon as they are covering the early Prem match tomorrow - Liverpool derby!

Poor batting against an average fast bowler, still it's made the first test more interesting.

So was the nose of a certain ex-bank chairman... so stick to menthol <laugh>

Interestingly we went on a certain comparison website yesterday and In the end got travel insurance for her for £141 as opposed to £725

We also moved to M & S car insurance from Direct Line last year and got a renewal quote this time for £600 (Leeds has its problems.. like the Fooball Club)... we went on the same website found it cheaper on line etc etc.... rang them up and after two minutes had offered me a deal less than last year.

Also, mobile phones, I had a cheap contract with Virgin and was paying £15 a month, went in the shop and they could only offer me the smart phone I wanted at £20 a month. I phoned up ( apparently the phone agents have more leeway) and asked to keep it at £15... and after a brief conversation he offered me £9.73 a month with more much more capacity etc....

Same story when we bought a new car. Trick there is they are allowed to sell a certain number of "demonstration" models per quarter.... and we have done this now with Rover, Renault ( But what a car...NEVER AGAIN <doh>) and now with Skoda...

    Def pays to do it.

I have tried it with Ryan Air though and had to wait 20 minutes on a premium rate phone line ;)

    Morning... Cricket... oh dear....

    Ooh - bitchy. :)

It's all happening in Brisbane at the moment - cricket over & I'm now settling down to watch the top of table clash between Brisbane and Western Sydney. And Brisbane's star player Berisha has just scored a fine individual goal on his return from injury - 1-0 to the Roar after minutes. ;)

Hardly bitchy BB, it was poor batting and you could never claim Johnson as any more than average. But fair play, he shut the barmy army up as Broad put a sock in the rather childish Brisbane press.
