So what are you using right now to type these messages? PC? Laptop?

ITs easy to say the console is cheaper, but then did you own a ps3? With a PC you upgrade, you don't with a console. Many who own a console, own a pc, what would they be able to do with £350 upgrading their current PC? PC gaming is not about the short term, its about the long term, and in the long term I save a fortune. As you pay more for a game (upto £20 for next gen consoles), you pay online fee's, we don't.

It all depends on the user I guess, for me, I want the graphics, I don't see the point in playing games that look like PC games of old, on a new console.

If you look at the PS4 new online charges, (£39.99 / year or £11.99 / 90-days) over a lifetime of console usage, thats a hell of a lot of money being forked out. The Ps3 was released in 2006, so that was 7 years. 7 years of online play on a PS4 will cost you a minimum of £280, and if you were to pay 3 monthly £340.

So we have the console £350, plus online usage if thats what you are into of £280 - so just that alone see's that price jump to £630.

Then add on the extra charge of games, as shown above, £20 more for assassins creed. Even the current last gen consoles cost £10 more and this just a few weeks before the next gen release. So say we made it £15 difference over the course of the 7 years. How many games would you buy, would you say 30 was about right? Well say 30 as a guess figure (4 games a year roughly), some will buy more, others less, depends on how much of a gamer you are. So there your looking at another £450. So now we are up to £1,080.

Then we factor in that most console gamers own a PC anyway, so say we use your price of £350, which is a pretty basic PC system, we are now upto £1,420.

I recently set out my ideal PC. This is a brand new build, with an i7 4770k processor (£246.89), Gigabyte GTX 780 ti GPU (£587.57). Now that came in as £1,593.23 - now thats pretty OTT for what I will be getting, but this again is my dream PC. After all the GTX 780ti is the current top end GPU on the market. Not to mention, I can save money by using certain parts of my current build such as the water cooling unit, the 2 SSD drives. I mean I could go and buy 2 x GTX 760's and put them in SLi and save over £200 on the GPu price.

Now after those 7 years, the PC will perform much better at games than the PS4 will. It may not handle the next gen games in the way it does now, but it certainly is more future proof than a Ps4.

Thats why I personally, do not understand why so many people buy into consoles, they are a waste of money in my eyes.

Yep, galaxian and 1943 I remember well. Some of my faves - leaderboard, space invaders, psi-5 trading company, ghostbusters, impossible mission (with speech!), arkanoid, raid over moscow, r-type, lemmings, beach head... so many more I've forgotten the names of.

I'm glad I put that disclaimer in about a pissing contest! You win :emoticon-0107-sweat

I just upgraded from a GTX460 to a GTX660 and thought that was an expensive upgrade. I got a 30-50% increase in frame rates so it was a worthy update for me. I tend to upgrade certain parts when there's a good cost to benefit ratio. I agree with your overall point.

swanselona>>>ive never paid for online with ps3 but yep its coming 2 the ps4.....the thing is you do get lots of free games for the forty pound a year>>>>tiz well worth it if you ask me......but again its down 2 personal taste.........but come on millions of gamers use consoles so we all cant be wrong>>>>>tiz clutter free and gaming which in my view is up there with most pc graphics>>>>unless ofcourse you pay for regular upgrades>>>a console a year cost if your seriously into pc gaming at the high end.

daimun.....classics the lot of em>>>>r-type cost me in the hundreds of pounds when I was a wee lad>>>the fish shop I played it would have closed if it wasn't for the takings from my addiction ..........<ok>

Bought this GTX660 because it's well cooled and I bought a Fractal Design Define R4 Case at the same time. Moved the rest of my gear into this case and it's decreased my temps nicely. My 460 ran very hot.

Yeh PS+ is new with PS4.

Oh don't get me wrong, to be a top end gamer it costs a fortune to keep your rig up to date, but what I am on about is the long term of buying a pc over a console. And yes maybe the console does sell millions, but unfortunately, that is down to convenience, as building a PC is not for everybody. For example if my bro was to go into gaming, he would either buy himself a PS4 or give me the money to build a PC for him, he wouldn't build it himself. Not to mention the cheaper up front option, again down to convenience.

As for free games, again you are right, but then the PC has a much larger range of free games, not to mention the range of online multiplayer games that can be played for free, at no extra cost. World of tanks for example. (Which i know is coming to XBOX, but it looks crap :p)

Now there are things both can do, such as play music, store photo's, videos, and what not, but those things the PC does better, PC's can be used for a much wider range of things, such as for me personally I use image editing software (photoshop) which cannot be used on a console. So it doubles up for me. I use multiple monitors for my Pc, I cannot do that with a console.

It is why earlier in the thread, I said that I personally believe the age of consoles is not going to last much longer, as its all about how convenient things are, and as time goes on, it will become less convenient, as more and more will learn how to use PC's properly, and learn to build and upgrade them themselves.

Nice mate, yeah the 460 does run hot, mine idles at 53 and around 85 under stress

Mind you my processor was the same, i7 930, ran idle at 50 and stress tested at 83 degrees. That was with a stock cooler, so went out and bought myself the Corsair Hydro h55, and it now runs 28 degrees idle and 40 under stress.

Next on my wish list is the Cooler Master Cosmos SE case, I currently have the Antec 902, and I don't like it any more.
