Indeed he did! So you don't hate him any more as you've changed (removed) your signature? Do you like him now? I can't work you out all in all

Jack will sign a new contract with us, IMO,but quite rightly, now is not the time...the priority for all our players is to climb the league-table,and "get us safe!"

There are those who thought Colback was useless (some on here) but he now seems to have become a valuable asset almost overnight. Talk about fickle!

Yup couldn't agree more, the lad has been top class for us, never gives anything less than 100% and while some on here have always bleated on about Cattermole and gave him a 1001 chances I would rather have this kid in centre mid every day of the week, better on the ball and not a total liability.

However I do think Colback has felt 2nd class to other managers signings and will hold out for a bosman and I cant blame the kid if he does, I just hope Gus can get him back on the Capet ride for another few years.

I have not changed my signature. Colback is playing very well and had a blinder in the derby. However, he still is a devious royalist geordie bastard imo. That should be quite easy to work out.

The signature that used to say "Hate Colback.... Love Sunderland" which is no longer there??

For those above saying about the "knockers" of Colback - I always thought he was OK but neve rlooked likely to move to the next level. I have seen, since Poyet came in, a completely different player - or maybe a completely different permission slip from the gaffer!! And I like it.

A year ago, as a midfielder, I wouldn't have been too bothered about him signing a new deal - now - I want the lad's contract extended. Fickle you may say but on his quality of play (which has improved exponentially since the new manager came in), you wouldn't say him and the Jack Colback a season ago were the same midfielder. Kudos to Mr Poyet

A credit to the club imo, a model pro as was jordon henderson, a glowing example to the younger ones at the club.

He needed playing time mate, which he got at LB. Playing time makes players what they are, Wickham should have been pushing for the first team now but because he wasn't played here and only got rare short term loans, he just hasn't progressed.

Sunderland have made positive progress in their re-started contract talks with Jack Colback as they look to tie one of the heroes of their Capital One Cup run to a new long-term deal.

The Journal understands Colback is the only one of Sunderland’s out-of-contract players who has opened formal talks on an extension to his deal, which runs out at the end of the campaign. While Craig Gardner is resigned to finding a new club, Phil Bardsley and Seb Larsson are hoping to stay at the Stadium of Light and play a further part in Gus Poyet’s plans for new season.

However, it is Colback whom they are keen to tie down to a new deal, with Poyet having been especially impressed by the midfielder’s attitude and ability in a role which he sees as crucial to Sunderland’s future success.

There is understood to be a preliminary agreement which would keep Colback out of the hands of a number of Premier League suitors, with Everton one of the clubs who have checked on his availability in recent months.

Sunderland hope to tie something up before their final date at Wembley.

The Journal has also learned Sunderland are keen to tie up deals for Ki Sung-Yueng and Marcos Alonso – but recognise they will have to wait until the end of the season and a resolution to their relegation fight.

Jack Colback's talks over a new Sunderland deal are progressing well and could be completed soon, according to a report in The Journal.

The midfielder's current contract expires in the summer with a plethora of clubs, including Everton and Swansea, watching in the hope of stealing him, but Sunderland are resolved to not allowing that to happen.

Colback is one of a number of players whose deals at the Stadium of Light are due to expire in a matter of months. He is the only one currently in talks apparently, but Phil Bardsley and Seb Larsson are said to be hopeful of nabbing extensions.

David Vaughan and Craig Gardner are widely expected to leave this month, with Nottingham Forest especially close to the former.

Carlos Cuellar, Andrea Dossena and Keiren Westwood meanwhile are probably headed for the exit this summer.

It's not difficult to see why Sunderland have prioritised Colback's deal, though. As a homegrown product he lends some identity to what is becoming a bit of a cosmopolitan squad. He is also maturing into a quite lovely footballer, and one who perfectly slots into Gus Poyet's preferred philosophy too.

Whilst this is fantastic news it does bring up another point...

Where the hell did Dossena go?

I think Jack has been a victim of his own versatility. Managers know that wherever he's positioned he'll always give 100%. He's a good solid "unglamorous" professional. He reminds me a lot of Scholes.

I'm hoping that when Catts and other players all start to leave, and as part of re-structuring midfield that its built around the likes of JC.

We have to keep him! Any talk of him leaving should be jumped on and refuted by the club in absolute terms!!!

Him and Catts should be kept IMO - I hope we build our midfield around the one who suits the game better - Cattermole is a much better option in certain games and Colback the same - and Colback only has 5 months on his contract whereas Cattermole has 3 years
