Rumbles on.

SUNDERLAND face a fight to hang on to homegrown star Jack Colback.

The 24-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and negotiations over a new deal have yet to resume after he rejected an initial offer from the club over the summer.

That means that with every week that goes on without progress on a new deal, Colback’s position strengthens while the Black Cats increasingly run the risk of losing one of their brightest Academy products for nothing in the summer

Everton have already been linked with interest in a player who will be able to listen to other interested parties in January ahead of a potential Bosman departure next June.

Sunderland had a chance to nail down the start in the close season but their offer of a contract extension is understood to have been on virtually the same terms Colback agreed when he penned his current deal in 2012.

latest reports has Colback stalling as he wants to see where sunderland are in a month or 2. also the initial offer was the same as his current contract - which is bullshit imo, he deserves a raise.

Not sure if this is even a story - is it just a paper saying "Talks over a new contract have been needed but haven't happened" which we all knew anyway?

Colback himself was on the radio the week before last saying "Yeah we're talking to Sunderland and trying to sort out the contract situation" so where does this paper get it's news?

He certainly does - but the initial offer was made during the summer - when a raise wouldn't exactly be the first thing I put with Colback - I thought he had a lot to prove particularly playing in midfield - but he appears to be proving that now so give the lad a payrise FFS and get him signed

Now we were led to believe by the Media that Jack wouldn't sign because of he wasn't playing his natural position. It was believed to the point that I had to engage in debate with a long serving poster regarding his logic and his over willingness to hang Jack out to dry (of all players to try and hang out <doh>). He questioned his commitment to our club saying.

    To which I reasoned.

    To which he said

    to which I said

And here's a little something from another gun jumping poster

This is a new angle on Jacks contract situation, If true (and I'm always sceptical with the press) then damn right he shouldn't have signed a contract. We need to put in a decent offer sharpish and stop taking the piss.

I just think it's crazy that some of our own hung him out to dry on something they know nothing about. As they clearly believe in everything they read would they back track? Conceed they jumped the gun. Unlikely. Who needs enemies and all that Jazz init.

    I know, I know. I'm a massive cock, but I'm a balanced cock. <whistle>

    http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jack-colback-no-hurry-restart-6321482?

Sunderland are aware that the 24-year-old could leave for nothing next summer and have made attempts to restart talks, but so far the versatile midfielder has opted to wait and see how he fits into new boss Gus Poyet’s plans before returning to the negotiating table.

“In any contract talks, a change of management will stall things because the new manager needs to see who he wants,” said Colback.

“And, with the position we are in in the league, it’s not really at the forefront of anyone’s mind.

“I have been approached [to restart talks] but I said I would just be patient and see how it went.

“But I’m hoping to get something sorted.”

The outcome of Sunderland’s struggle against relegation could also become a factor, especially with a number of other Premier League clubs – including Everton - said to be monitoring Colback’s situation.

We gave Colback his opportunity. He has come through the ranks and deserves his reward, but,

if he is thinking away he should sign a contract so we don't lose him for nothing at all. He owes us that.

Hopefully Colback will sign but it wouldn't surprise me if he left & went to a team like Everton.

If he even talks to them in January I'd be dropping him like a hot potato!

    Really hope you're wrong Schwerer

If it happened we'd have no one to blame but ourselves. He should have been tied down at the start of last season.

I think he'll sign a new contract. Poyet's style suits him, He's enjoying his football under Poyet no doubt. Club need to start talking turkey with him while he's in the side.

Be interesting how this all plays out.

He is a bit of a home boy by all accounts and they would break the bank for him just to put one over us.

I just hope we stay up, he buys into Poyet's outlook and plans for the future.

You think? One of the main gripes the Nag fans have with the progression of their club is how strict they are with their wage structure. Refusal to go over their cap has restricted them shrewd bargains via Carr's scouting. With that in mind why do you think Ashley would spend excess money just to get one up on us? I think Ashley will be pretty indifferent regarding Sunderland, he doesn't even give a toss about the feelings of his own fans so doubt he's holding some kind of Sunderland grudge. The bloke cares for nothing but money.

We can't lose Jack and Ki (if he goes back to Swansea), so I hope the backroom bods are on this right now. We still need creativity in the middle, a link man between the MF and front men and another LB, since Dossena has a bit of a question mark above him ATM.

If you watched him walk off after the derby he waved to some mags supporters (who sat in total silence throughout the game). However, he was immense in the derby even for a DGRB.

Always a conspiracy with you!! How do you know they sat in total silence - were you watching them? Did you not know there was a game of football on?

Yes I was sat right next to them in the north east corner. They hardly made a sound and Colback did wave up there as he walked off. He will doubtless have friends who are nags. I'm not criticising him at all he had a blinder that day.
