Have to admit that personally I felt the mayor's comments showed not just a lack of judgement but a lack of class ... all for commending the efforts behind our bid and even that he felt that it 'deserved to win' ... but no need for the rather graceless comment about Hull. It has deflected from the efforts put in by those involved and portrayed us as bitter losers... could have been avoided. Any contest like this, by its very nature, has to have a large degree of subjectivity from the judging panel, but so what? That could have gone in our favour. Just accept the decision and highlight the positives that have come from the bid process.
Our Lord Mayor is no better in all fairness. I'm too young to remember Bullseye but I'm told she looks like Jim Bowen in drag. please log in to view this image
To be fair, all they do is offer the Lord Mayor title to the longest serving member who hasnt already been it. It's an unwritten cross party rule within the council and unfortunately there are some long-serving twerps there....
If you buy one, you'll be the first, they've been in a week now and they haven't sold a single one yet.
Really pleased Hull has won this and all involved should be applauded. What is becoming apparent is how the other bids seem to have underestimated our desire and belief that this title was ours and the effort we put in was more than they could as we had the real passion to make this happen. Some poor comments from the losers shows a real attitude problem and maybe the judges picked up on this over the period of the process. They think we won because we need it, they think its only Hull, who would vote for Hull. But we just wanted more than you and it showed so show some class and be gracious
Been waiting for this for a long time - I remember back at uni doing a project on showcasing Hull in a positive light after the 'location, location, location' programme had been aired. All the snivelling Southerners at uni piped up with lots of negative remarks about the city (none had ever visited after I questioned them), I remember lots of talk about Hull being the 'worst place to live' on football forums throughout the years and spending a lot of spare time defending the city... Winning this is the equivalent of when at City matches we respond to the opposition with "You What? You What? You What, You What, You What?" Feels great.
Funny that he thinks Swansea deserved it because of the 'thousands of people supporting their bid' ....Er, which city's backing was trending worldwide on Twitter?
"Gary Lineker, Desperate Dan, Catherine Zeta-Jones, George Galloway, David Icke, Rob Brydon, The View, Kasabian, Ruth Madoc - can you hear me? Ruth Madoc - can you hear me? Your boys took one Hull of a beating."
You obviously have never really looked around Hull. We have some of the finest museams in the country and they are free to enter. One of the best art galleries in the North of England and when we come to Theatre Hull Truck is the best independent theatre organisation in the country.
