The PL may give Allam the green light on the basis that it's a tester for the global market. We're a small club, and let's face it insignificant, compared to the marketing power of the top clubs. If the change is sanctioned and it's shown to increase our revenue abroad (leaving any it will/it won't argument aside) then it may set a precedent for others to follow. The PL IS all about money as has been posted. So they may conduct an experiment whereby Hull Tigers is the subject - the reasoning will be if it's successful then other clubs jump on the bandwagon and if it fails then it doesn't matter because it's only Hull City. We might the PL lab rats.......
Its just a feeling. Why didn't Vincent Tan do it with the shirt change? Perhaps somebody had a word. If City do it he can then point to us and say if its ok for Hull City its ok for Cardiff City. I wouldn't be surprised if all that talk about far east money making us the richest club in the world came from enquiries by Vincent's friends. I feel Assem Allam may have got a way with it if he had played the game but he hasn't. He is basically telling the FA and the Premier League to do one. Its his business and he can do what he likes. one reaction of the FA and the Premier League having heard that interview may have been "you think you'll do that do you, we'll see?" It would have been my reaction. Perhaps Assem should have nipped down the library and borrowed Carnegie's How to Win Friends.
I'd much rather not, its really, really dull. It was more an ironic observation on your first comment.
Possible, but not probable is my own view. The richest club is Manchester United. Alex Ferguson has built a football club that will remain at the tops of European football for decades. He is now a director. Do you think after everything he has said he'll roll over and accept Manchester Red Devils? What about Sheik Mansour? Do you think he's invested all that money to become Manchester Hunter? He wants a traditional England football team that competes in the European Championship. The only two Premier League teams wanting a name change are Hull City and Cardiff City. What do you think the reaction of Arsenal fans worldwide would be to "we have to change our name and follow the example of Hull Tigers".
I almost don't know where to begin in explaining my feelings and mixed emotions about this sorry saga. Actually, I do - this is all Allam's fault and whether you are for, against or couldn't give a toss, that much has to be conceded. After doing so much right, Allam has brought UNNECESSARY division and (for a lot of supporters), genuine sadness at a time when we should all be revelling in our success. We often have so much going on in our lives that brings difficulty and stress, but as football supporters can usually rely on Saturday afternoon to bring some relief and justifiably expected distraction. He's ruined that for many. But that distraction doesn't come from the fact that football is unimportant, rather because it has an importance that can transcend the other "stuff". For what it's worth, I don't think it's a good idea to shoot oneself in the foot by playing Allams game and not attending or seeking a refund. No-one, even his noisiest supporters believe that attendance equals support for the name change. I think CTWD should keep fighting on, fence sitters should get involved (at least make their feelings known), we should all try and enjoy the season, AND remember this - Allam won't be around forever. I'll confess to thinking earlier that Allam might be smart enough to want to be popular amongst fans and display a bit of magnanimity. My fault - I should have looked up "arrogant" in the dictionary. The definition includes a picture of him!
Sums it up perfectly for me. If Mr. Allam thinks the issue will eventually go away he is wrong, it will fester for decades.
I have not said allot on this load of bollocks. The once held in the greatest esteem Mr Allam senior. Now turning into a bully. It's not the straight choice that it sounds is it? Just because you keep turning up every week home and away does not mean that you are in favour of the name change does it? all that means is that you love the sport and the club, the guy has certainly turned from hero to zero with his bombastic attitude towards the fans of our great club. I do and will admire the fans who chose to stay away (good on ya) BUT I also admire the fans who still turn up as it proves F*ck all it only serves to put an even bigger wedge between Allam and the fans of Hull City A.F C. It's amateurish. Not a clue where this will end but I can see a steep decline just around the corner .... hope I'm wrong.
Instead of starting a new club called Hull City AFC, couldn't a club be set up called Hull Tigers. Would that stop him using the name?
I'm intrigued as to why CTID feel it would be fair to have a referendum based on the season ticket holders. They are all "Fat Cats", what about the people on low incomes who cannot afford a season ticket, the people who go whenever they can afford it, no matter how infrequently this may be? Does being able to pay a bit more give you more right to an opinion on the clubs future? What about people who love the club, but live or work away? I don't like him, but surely the likes of Peter Saxton have just as much of a right to their input as people who live in the City?
As OLM has already explained, CTWD would prefer for all fans to get a vote rather than just season ticket holders. The problem is that the club no longer keep anyone's details on their new system from before a year ago. So it would only be possible to contact season ticket holders and those who have bought tickets in the last year or so.
If OLM thinks his purchase of a season ticked gives him a right to tell the Allams how to run their business, does he think my purchase of some of his products gives me a right to run his?
Its fairer than no referendum. All our supporters have the right to a say. On a much earlier post I was asked who would get a vote and unfortunately there is no easy answer. I understand most of the sales information for the early years of the KC has been lost. Any ballot would be a compromise. I don't think Assem Allam rejected the suggestion on the grounds that Peter Saxton wouldn't have a vote.
Surely, if the club is to be Hull City, the referendum should be open to all citizens of the City of Hull. What you want is the Electoral Roll, not the clubs marketing lists.
So you're doing the same thing as Tubby and Happy now? Arguing one point, and then when it turns out to be rubbish just dumping that and starting again from a slightly different slant?
Yes, but it is not just Peter is it? Canada Tiger, Qatar Tiger, Macca, Imperial Tiger etc etc. The list of regular posters on here who are no longer local is extensive (in proportion to the membership). How can this be fair?
Unfortunately I don't attend enough games to make any impact but I would have difficulty in going to see Hull Tigers. Initially at least. He seems intent on changing the name no matter what the supportes feel and if the protest gets really high I am worried he may take his bat home. What happens then?
