Think they are realizing that despite seeing far more of the ball, Townsend has still yet to actually deliver a cross; Lallana's delivered a couple now.
Did in the Chile match, as well. Suspect that he (rightly) believes Lallana to be more willing/able than most to take part in the one-twos and fast interplay of which Rooney is fond.
Lallana bundled over looking dogy, but gets up - phew..[!], and France are 2-0 up in Paris. That's 2-2 now with under an hour to go. Germany nearly score. EDIT: And they do.
Mertesacker beats five or six white shirts to that ball. Someone, produce a quality center back or two.
Eh... Roy..! Please, please, please put Rickie on in the 2nd half. And don't take Adam off. It's a lot to ask, especially when Saints players are ready made whipping boys.
Lallana hasn't really seen much of the ball, and has had little moments of quality when he has got on the ball, but not a lot. I think he needs to be given at least 20/25 minutes in the second half to see if he can get on the ball a bit more, and he seems to be having the best impact when he pops up exactly where no-one expects him to be, although it seems Hodgson likes players to be very static positionally.
Having watched Johnson and Walker play for England again over the last few friendlies, I'd have to call Roy a liar. He can't possibly have been watching Clyne, otherwise he would know that Clyne is a far better RB then either.
Johnson and Walker = Pants but will still be on the plane to Brazil unless one gets injured then Clyne will get a chance. England desperate for a real centre forward, Sturridge all over the place and doesn't link play
My new England team that I came up with in the shower: ----------Forster Clyne--Jagielka--Lescott--Cole -----------Jones ------Barton----Rooney Lallana--------------Rodriguez ----------Lambert That midfield won't take any ****.
