Sorry but I strongly disagree with this. We're just taught to believe that everything about German football is the gold standard. Even on the build-up on ITV now it's all about how fantastic Germany are. Mind you Gary Neville makes some good points at least. The praise Germany get from within England is so disproportionate. We're more confident in Germany's ability than they are. Spain are better than them but people go on about Germany more for some reason. Italy are also better IMO but hardly anyone even mentions them. I really think people are influenced by the fact we see our players in England every week and they don't seem as exciting whereas a lot of their team play for Bayern or Dortmund and are therefore seen as really exciting and special. You look at people like Mertesacker who regularly ballses up for Arsenal. I know I always say it but everyone raved about Podolski and when he came to England the praise has died down. Ozil is one player I really like but since he came to England does he have the same appeal? For about a month he was everyone's favourite but now it's all about Ramsey.

All I said was that they have much better backups than we have... which is true, isn't it?

Sorry, but that's utter bollocks. It is a friendly, or a trial, well short of any competition. He's being given a run. The rest of the critical brigade are well out of order in their hugely critical opinions. The only losers are the over-opinionated knobs who find it so easy to throw out gratuitous criticism and then find it so easy to put their hands up and say I got it wrong (again). Kids with big gobs and **** all behind it. You are a disgrace. :emoticon-0121-angry:emoticon-0121-angry

You said they'd get into our starting XI.

Personally I'd rather have Hart, Walker, Cole, Baines, Wilshere, Gerrard, Rooney, etc. than any of their reserves. I'd rather have Cahill and Jagielka than Mertesacker. Ozil would definitely improve England but if we're talking about the Benders, Weidenfeller, Mertesacker, Kruse, Schmelzer etc. then no I'd genuinely rather have our lads. Boateng is another one who was average in England.

Why do I suddenly feel confident in England?

    It's because it's Germany we're playing, isn't it?

England have already played better tonight in the first 5 minutes than on Friday.

Thank god for substance. What is the added benefit of playing the best team you think you've got? Roy is looking for his best team and Germany are a rare sounding board where he (maybe) can consider some elements as constant.

The Strachan effect will wear off soon.

It's a valid point, but I think we do this too much. The England team only play games every few months, so if we use those games to experiment, when do the first team actually play together to develop a chemistry?
