    A little something from NUFC.com

Having failed to feature in Saturday's World Cup playoff success over Ethiopia, Shola Ameobi played and scored for Nigeria on Monday in a 2-2 draw with Italy.

The Newcastle forward won his fifth cap for the Super Eagles in a friendly fixture staged at Fulham's Craven Cottage and after his side went behind early on, was instrumental in a 35th minute equaliser for Bright Dike.

Better was to come from Shola within five minutes, as he claimed his second senior international goal with a fine first-time volley from a narrow angle at the near post.

Some mackem then netted early in the second half for the Azzurri before Shola was replaced on 65 minutes.

PS: Ameobi faced a former Magpie colleague in the Italian side, with ex-Toon loan centre forward Giuseppe Rossi opening the scoring. Now 26, Rossi is top scorer in Serie A this season, having netted eleven times for Fiorentina.

Gate receipts from the game went to UNICEF, to fund their relief efforts for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. Around 15,000 spectators were present.

Nice to see that the gate receipts went to such a good cause.

I refuse to fall into more years of the Shola trap. He is doing his usual, finding a little bit of form to fool us into thinking he is a good option. We'll give him a new contract and boom, he'll return to his normal level.

That said I'm really pleased for the big fella, its just time to move on come the end of the season.

The reason Shola is so famous is that he's so crap. Years from now you're going to wonder how he stayed at Sid James for so long :)

You don't need to tell us anything about him, we've had to watch him for years.

He'll still be playing for us when he's hobbling around on walking sticks.

Now that Shola has a taste for International Football it makes you wonder.

Just think, if he'd taken his opportunity to play for Nigeria when he was younger, next year could've been his 2nd/3rd World Cup to show off his talents. He would probably have left SJP when one of Europe's top clubs came in for him.

Lucky for us he didn't leave and we've been mesmerised by his sheer brilliance all these years.

Lets hope he gets to Brazil and shows the world what an Ameobi is capable of.
