Should also be mentioned that Shaw bangs in a few in this video as well, we have our Free Kick takers sorted for the next 15 years by the looks.

Lets not put too much on him. Even if he just turns out to be a great PL player i will be very happy.

No offence to Lambert, but I want JWP to start taking our free kicks. I like how he doesn't hit the ball with huge power and gets the ball just over the wall and into the bottom corner.

I think he's already designated now to take all of them within about 25 yards, I think Rickie will continue to take the ones a little bit further out which suits their respective strengths perfectly.

I would say give JWP ones just outside the box (18.0001- 22/23 yards out). Give Rickie the rest.

I remember a spell in league 1 when we needed Rickie to take the free kicks and corners and be in the box to get on the end of them.

He supplied the free kick for Keane to score from in the U21 match. Keane said afterwards that JWP's free kicks are so accurate that the players just know they are in with a good chance from every set piece. The match against St Marino tomorrow should be interesting.

I was there on Thursday at Stadium MK to watch him, he was very good and everything that was good went through him.
Although he plays in the first XI on the right of midfield, in England U21s he sits in the middle picking the ball up from deep and distributing as the team works its way forward with JWP pulling all the strings
If he can sort out his shooting (from open play) and goal scoring I can see him filling the "Play Maker" role we keep taking about….Benega? We might already have our own already in the team just ready to move from the right into the centre

PS The Mirror being nice to a Saint…they are probably rifling through his bins to find some scandal on him. Build them up and knock them down!

Cheeky jumped up little blighter. Who does he think he is? He's still wet behind the ears.

You'd think he was a classy seasoned pro with years of experience instead of a green nipper just out of the Academy.

He does impressions. We've all heard his Steven Gerrard, and a very good caricature it is too. He also does a very good impression of a classy seasoned professional with years of experience.

Giving away too may secrets for my liking:smile:

Having said that when I was taking my FA badge many years ago I had to coach a bunch of Saints players in swerving the ball. Just slightly intimidating! Anyway, I got one of the players to demonstrate and although he was more than able his actual technique was impossible for the others to follow.

As JWP says he has found a technique that suits him. Hopefully, he's a player with extraordinary talent and knowing how he takes a free kick doesn't mean that others will be able to copy him.

I do find JWP's technique slightly odd, but I can see how he does it and that's fine. That little jump is unique, as far as I'm aware. His role model, David Beckham used to wind himself up in order to get the necessary swing, so there's plenty of spare technique left yet if he wants to adopt it. I'll always remember that Matty could achieve exactly the same ends, in terms of bend and swing, but make it look absurdly simple. He'd just saunter up to the ball, kick it, and the thing would bend round the wall and into the net. Job done.

I think JWP should actually be taking the ones that are farther out, as it gives him the ability to swerve them in to Lambert to finish. Plus, then we don't get caught out if it doesn't work. Lambert's technique and natural striker instincts I think give him the advantage in situations where you want to power one directly in.

People are talking about direct to goal freekicks. JWP for the shorter ones. Lambert for the howitzers.

It's funny really. Ronaldo takes a massive run up. Matty probably walked back 3 steps and thought 'can't be bothered going any further back'. lol
