Chris Waddle on developing English Players

Very sensible article he does at one point trot out the not enough opportunities due to foreign players malarkey, but mostly about re-developing the grassroots programme. Advice we have heard before but as usual no action by the FA.

If only there was a club at the top level that would develop a policy to bring youth players through to the first team, to give them the opportunity to break through and to play with some world class team mates. Now who can think of a team like that?

 

To be fair to the current FA they are looking to do something - the main prong of this will be about how we develop young kids

I can! And we've even started keeping them now, instead of supplying a couple of North London clubs

 

Southampton does it the right way and is a model for the way English football should go. Clubs like yours should be rewarded and I do hope you do well in the Prem. Also keep your best players!

BTW I've always had a soft spot for Arsenal, simply because of the way you play. (Watching Walcott and Oxo playing for you, never irked as much as Mr Bale playing for the spuds). Wouldn't mind if you went off the rails this weekend, though!
