It's a tricky one. HCC gave us as fans a good deal on the Stadium, but possibly not the best deal for ratepayers. Managed properly, there's the potential for win win. As I understand it, there's a dispute over maintenance, with the SMC saying some much needed work should be covered by the builders warranty. Another question worth pondering is, if owning the Stadium and surrounds is the key to untold wealth, why don't the current owners get rich?
I was meaning re. after his time with us/jail time. In fact to back track -I suppose my love od the club would have let me come back with new ,more principled owners. In my ignorance I did realise King had so much previous when playing for us. I also think guys like Ravel Morrison -who seems to be trying to turn his life around should be given a chance.King does not appear to have any sense of guilt or remorse after previous episodes so I would truly not want him with us. I think Di Canio is probably still a fascist -he certainly was espousing those views til fairly recently. He possibly was told to renounce or go from Sunderland. I find it refreshing to hear the views of Smuggsy that he would let the owners call it what they like.I feel sure if blokes like Filey and myself can get over it with a combined almost 100 years supporting between us then it is at least possible to call us City even if lineker has to call us something else.I suspect it will be Hull-just the same as now.
FFS, he got the sack because of appalling results from his team of misfits. If they didn't like his alleged political views, why did they employ him in the first place? I cannot recall him espousing any meaningful political views - he doesn't speak every good English. I know there is a photo of him giving the 'Roman salute' when he was frenziedly celebrating with the Lazio fans after a derby game with Roma. It's hardly an endorsement of invading Abyssinia and Ethiopia.
I've been supporting Sunderland since the early 60's and travelling from Mansfield to watch them, week after week, to support them since I was 16 years old. I used to hitch-hike up there for nearly every home game. I'm just planning my pre-Christmas visit 'home' to take in 3 matches, as well as seeing the family etc of course. I've seen all kinds of owners, chairmen, gimmicks come and go and, after all that, the memories are just the matches, the supporters and the daft carry on. Don't let excruciatingly minute details, such as what some bloke on the council may have thought about something someone might have said, spoil your season in the Premier League. You haven't had enough to let this one pass by arguing with each other about things you have so little concrete evidence about. Falling out over speculation and conjecture isn't the way to have fun ............ just in my opinion like, no offence meant to anyone.
He used to be on telly a lot when I lived in Italy. He was forthright in his opinions. Many of my neighbours agreed with him.He was proud to be a fascist. I am not saying you have to agree with me about fascism-that is the great thing about not living in a fascist dictatorship.
The problem is, changing the name guarantees nothing. All it has done so far is divide the fans at a time when total unity is required. It's alright for Mr. Allam to tell us to forget this issue and just enjoy the football as it's not going to happen until next year, why didn't he do all the market research first then announce a name change with proof of the riches to come. If it could guarantee top six, europe etc. there would not be any arguments.
And there's the problem mate ........ all of the Newcastle marches, mock funerals, protests stopped when they qualified for Europe and started again when they were knocked out. Ashley hadn't changed.
Wouldn't surprise me if some of our management team have been unsettled by this namechange madness. If they sense the owners of the club are more interested in a spiteful vendetta than improving the team, the club infrastructure etc, they may decide that other clubs are more 'serious'............
I didn't say they had. I was talking about a totally different club and a totally different scenario ........ my point is that supporters principles can sometimes change depending on the level of success. As much as we'll all deny that's the case.
Fair commnt-I was just countering your belief that he was not really a fascist.I cannot tell you if he was or was not when he worked for Sunderland.I can assure you he has spoken about his fascist belief in his own language-and imo he was a commiited fascist within the fairly recent past.
It must have an impact. Would you invest, or look to associate your company name with us at the minute?
And that's why some City fans are accepting this at present, because of the perceived success so far this season. If we were mid table championship or in the same position as Palace, would it be so palatable for them? A very recent chairman of ours got carried away by a good start and talked readily of Europe, it came back to bite us all.
