I still reckon allowing these players access to a worldwide audience does more harm than good. Every single thing you say, whether good, bad, ill informed banter or otherwise is scrutinised.

 

I have a close mate who is black, called Eugene.
When we go on lads holidays he's always taking the piss out of me because I spend all my time trying to get a tan (when he 'has the mother of all ****ing tans' - his words. Hell he even once emailed me a pic of an albino in bermudas with my name under it to have a laugh (I found it hilarious).
He also mocks me for not having a BMW (black man's willy) so am I offended... like hell I am.... it's banter.
You are bang on the money Hacky when you say each word/letter is poured over.
Hodgson got a spadeful too which was all bollocks.

In terms of social media I think all footballers at our club should be banned from using Twitter due to the crap it can cause.

Saylor aint the sharpest tool in the box for risking his banter getting out, that's for certain.

I'm all for equal rights but there are some people like them that just take it too far, you hear Rio Ferdinand moan on about it, yet when he didn't get his own way over the John Terry affair, calls Ashley Cole a choc-ice.

Guys, I think people are so genuinely worried about whatever they're saying being racist, that they're actually becoming a racist by accident. I mean, that BBC article says "stereotypes of black people" and "one with an afro wig"... Surely that's racist because they're interpreting purely from a racial perspective? To note someone has been racist from a PICTURE, you must be looking through a racist pair of eyes, otherwise it would all fly over your head.

At the end of the day, mates cheekily taking the mick about anything is fine within the given social framework and context of their relationship. It's a natural part of social, physical and cultural evolution. These boundaries are respected and known in that friendship, but the rest of the ****ing snoopy bastard world are completely ignorant of this and will endeavour to interpret it differently, so you shouldn't give them the excuse.

 

Its a sensitive world out there. I'm offended that people were offended.

Eh, yeah its banter but I can't think of any personal banter of this nature that I'd put out on social media without expecting it to be taken in the wrong way or seeming crass. The levity it is meant in obviously doesn't translate, and thoughts on the whole issue are so muddled in general that even though I know saylor probably isn't racist in the slightest and that it was meant as banter, I still think its offensive\wildly inappropriate given the connotations. I would however do the same thing as banter between myself and a friend of another race, without hesitation. Maybe I'm just offended that he didn't have enough nous to realise it would cause upset amongst the many people using twitter etc...or maybe he's actually less racist" than me in that he doesn't consider it in any way.

I did mention peoples being muddled/ confused whatver on the subject, mine definitely are, its a tricky topic, but then I was with some people yesterday and the only lad using the word 'darkie' was black and referring to himself, so I honestly don't expect a lot of clarity in the siuation anyway.

This probably just comes from some totally innocent dressing room banter into how many black players we have. We have beeen practically fielding an all black side recently, which isn't something people should shy away from mentioning anyway, its very interesting, culturally and historically n that.
