Hodgson on Jack Wilshere, who is nursing an ankle injury: "We are in constant discussion with Arsenal. At the moment we know Jack is in a period where his ankle is constantly assessed. We are going to monitor the situation and with any luck he will be fit at the weekend and fit to play.

"Arsene [Wenger] is not averse to him playing one of the games, it is whether he is fit or not."

Can't we just rest him completely? We have enough in midfield at the moment and he should really only play in an emergency, should we sustain serious casualties in midfield. Rather he should get his ankle healed properly than be constantly breaking down. We will need him more in the second half of the season anyway.

I would prefer Wilshere not to involved in the England games and get some much needed rest and recuperation time.

I can understand why everyone wants to protect him, but there's no way friendlies against Chile and Germany played at half place will be more intense than league games so it could actually be a decent opportunity for Jack to get game time in a less physical environment....

Walcott hasn't travelled with the squad to Manchester although he is back in training. Can't wait to see him back in action after this international break.

Good news, Mertesacker and Ozil haven't been called up the German squad due to their illness. Means they have two weeks to rest.

Great news about those two. Now another CF option in Podolski is available. I would give Giroud some rest and bench him and give Pod some playing time as a CF.

    Try this formation:

    Cazorla----------Pod-----------Walcott
    ------------------Ozil-----------------
    ---------Flamini---------Ramsey-------
    Gibbs-------Kos-------Mert------Sagna

I think Pod and Walcott will need to be eased back in against Soton, so they'll probably start on the bench, but it gives us some options to change things around up front if Giroud tires without us having to resort to using Bendtner <yikes>
