So the leaders haven't dabbled with options? McLaren and Red Bull generally run a lot of fuel in free practice so is it looking good for McLaren or are Mercedes going to go well on this circuit?
Mercedes flattering to deceive again, I think the McLarens and RBR were on the harder tyre, and Hamiltons computer said no and decided not to work, so he had a huige disadvantage, he was quickest until that point I believe. As to Buttons DRS, probably checking out his race trim, this isn't qualifying so he has no real need to use it, best to test what you'll spend 99.9% of the race using rather than seeing hw fast you can go with all your boosters on max. Personally I think it's between the McLarens and Ferrari's.
Watched first practice, Maurice Hamilton was wittering on when Vettel crashed, don't think he was watching the action and Croftie scared him with his excitement when it happened! Will be watching second practice so long as they dont jack it off for the tennis
Interesting FP1 data from F1Fanatic: the cars are around 2.5 seconds quicker than FP1 in 2010; not much difference at the top (with such a large margin) between fastest and ultimate lap times - Button better than Massa, Heidfeld better than di Resta; Petrov, Heidfeld and Maldonado fastest in the speed trap, with Petrov almost 5kph quicker this year.
Interesting Speed Trap times. http://www.formula1.com/results/season/2011/857/6857/speed_trap.html The top teams are very slow, while the Renault are fastest
Thunderstorms now being forecast for Sunday. In Red Bull's newsletter yesterday they said the weather was like Malaysia; very hot, very stormy.
So, before FP2 gets underway, quick quiz.... Which drivers competing this weekend have had accidents with the Wall of Champions? I'll update this post with the answers as we go... -Sebastian Vettel -Jenson Button -Michael Schumacher -Kamui Kobayashi - -
