The goal against Spurs was Rodriguez as Gaston was out with a blood clot. He scored five in the league last season.
Apologies if this has already been posted. Saints would want 20 million euros for Ramirez, paid for in four installments. http://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/seri...a-il-prezzo-per-la-cessione-i-dettagli-501437
he can't leave, if he does wanyama would be our sole scapegoat whilst guly is still injured and fox is out of the team.
I am sad that he hasn't been able to make the step up this season I don't think its a skill issue but an attitude problem, he doesn't seem to want to put the real effort in to succeed like the others. He wants to drift round the pitch doing a fancy bit here and there then watch the game go on around him…not the Southampton Way Let's shift him out get the 20m Euros and save his large wage bill for either another playmaker who wants to put the effort in or simply use the wages to distribute to our other key players who need new contract extensions to prevent them being poached Bye Bye Gaston!
LTL - I think the 20m Euris is Nicola's take it or leave it price… no one messes with THE DON!!!
I don't think anyone would be overly dissapointed if Gaston left (I still think he is a very talented footballer but just doesn't fit MP's style and what we are doing here atm) and replaced him with a young, hungry footballer who is eager to learn and play premiership football (who also fits MP's way of playing). A Will Hughes type would slot straight in.
I do look in most days and have starting a few new threads and added on some also and thank you for welcome me to the forum
20m euros???? Not a chance we'll get that. I would say 10m would be nearer so if that is the Don's 'take it or leave it price' then it looks like we will have an expensive reserve that leaves on a free in 2 and a half years. I would just cut our losses and get a player or players that will fit into Poch's squad plans.
I've heard this said before but I don't really understand it. What about him doesn't fit our style? This is a genuine question. Personally, I just think that he isn't quite good enough. His first touch can be a bit bouncy for example and so he'll give the ball away more than he should. I've got no problems with his work-rate, I was pleasantly surprised by his tackling back last season. A couple of the goals he scored also showed immense skill and composure. So, maybe you are right, he doesn't quite fit but why? And how will Osvaldo be a better fit?
€20M is £16.75M. I'd be staggered (but pleased) if we got anything like that for him. He's has a pretty much wasted time here recently; on what basis would someone judge him as being worth more than when he came, given that he hasn't started a game this season? I think that The Don is a businessman who knows all about cutting losses and he'll know that selling for less now is better than paying wages for the next couple of years. All very frustrating as, like many people, I desperately wanted him to succeed. For whatever reason it looks unlikely. Vin
It's a valid question but for me, one thing stood out. Several times, even after MP took over, I watched him lose the ball then (sometimes literally) shrug his shoulders and watch the opponent, even though in one case he was about six feet away. All the other player, every single one of them, tears into the opponent to get the ball back when it happens to them. For me, that's a big difference and is possibly one of the main reasons. That attitude just doesn't fit with our team's efforts. Will Dani fit? Well, he's come as a known factor for MP, so presumably MP rates him as being of the right mindset. He's certainly leagues ahead in strength over GR. We'll find out soon if he's a tryer. He certainly seems passionate when we score. I'm hoping a goal or two from him will open the floodgates. Vin
What he said. Also think that premierleague football in general doesn't suit Ramirez (he looked far better in italy/in international football - more time) and neither does being part of a real "team". DO has at least been succesful in a couple of different leagues and seems to bring with him a passion that GR lacks (or at least doesn't show). If we are building a team to really do something special that everyone needs to be trusted by the manager and each other. Don't feel that GR has that trust to do the hard work for others. You know what you are going to get from people like Davis and JWP and that's the difference.
To be fair to Ramirez on the effort front, he is the kind of player who is much more effective in space, so he may be told not to close down as much, so that when we do win the ball back, he is immediately ready to receive it. Not every player who doesn't close down is being lazy (conversely, not every player who runs around a lot is good). On the fee, it's a simple matter of supply and demand. We got him for a cut price because he had been promised he could leave Bologna (and they were desperate for the cash) and no-one else was willing to pay that much for him. Now we are not in a position where we need to sell him so anyone who wants him will have to pay the fee we want. Of course, that asking price is probably going to come down if nobody matches it...
The problem is, considering he was very much in the shop window before he came to us and no-one was willing to pay £12m for him then, why a year and a half on with no progress made would anyone pay the same or close to that? I'd be very happy to make £8-10m off him at this stage.
