Yes, they were English. The English Army defeated the French. Nothing to do with a British Army. There wasn't a British Army as there wasn't a union for a long time afterwards so there was no entity named Britain to have a British Army. Unless you thought Henry V's famous rallying cry before another battle in that war was "For Britain, Harry and St. George"? Do you just get a bit confused and think English is British and vice versa?
In short, the British did not defeat the French at Agincourt, the English did.

Call me crazy here but since when does this forum represent the majority of city supporters? How many city fans actually use this forum? a thousand maybe? or 2?

How does it legitimately represent the majority opinion?

It was an English army with some Welshmen acting as mercenaries. There was no political entity called Britain then.
So you haven't looked anywhere which says there was a British Army. Not a Union Flag, often mistakenly referred to as a Union Jack, in sight just a red cross on a white background.

BTW, see your prediction that Coleman would be going to Crystal Palace as he was nailed on to be sacked. Not got your finger on the pulse for someone who is hoping to be a sports journalist.

Has anyone suggested it does? It represents the views of the people who post on here, same as other forums represent the views of those who post on their forums.

Pretty sure I said he was having crunch talks with the Welsh FA actually, and I was right.

I also said they were likely to sack him, not nailed on as you say, because he had been under the microscope for sometime, he even admitted that he would have definitely been sacked had they lost to Moldova in the last International break. When you are called into talks with your superiors after expecting to be sacked following a dismal qualifying campaign in which he never got near the work Gary Speed did, the idea that he might be sacked was a pretty sensible one I would say.

He was also the favorite with virtually every bookie to join Palace until this morning.

I like the fact you expect me to be 100% right, when no fully professional journalist or bookie ever is and ever will be.

You couldn't be more pedantic if you tried for a lifetime! Makes me wonder why you didn't pick out African auxiliaries also fought with us at Rorke's Drift.

If it pleases you, I could edit my post to say the English, the Welsh, the British and a handful of native African auxiliaries for accuracy?

I can't remember the name of it, but I was looking at a list of nationalities at either Rourkes Drift or the other one, and the bulk weren't Welsh, but I think some were listed as being from Monmouthshire that wasn't part of England or Wales. It only got "accepted" by Wales relatively recently.

Apart from it being a bit of triv that interested me, it's a nice bit to chuck into a row about nominal nationalities. <ok>

I was going to be more pedantic and ask why if there was no Britain by the time of Agincourt the Romans had been referring to us as Britannia and Britons, particularly as Britannia included what is now England and Wales.

What have African auxilaries to do with Agincourt?

If you wrote the English, the Welsh and the British regarding Rorke's Drift you would be even more daft than in tour stupid statement about the British fighting at Agincourt. It was a British Army at Rorke's Drift with a Union Flag.
Unlike Agincourt which was fought before there was a Union. Henry V's rallying cry in Shakespeares's play is one of the most famous there is. Doesn't mention Britain. You have heard of Shakespeare haven't you? It just seems your general knowledge is somewhat lacking.

There is a difference between a geographical place, and a political entity. The inhabitants when Rome invaded were Celts. The Romans referred to the inhabitants of what they called Hibernia, Ireland, as Scoti. So the Irish are Scots going by your logic.

I suggest reading a few books on the subject if you have a long enough attention span for it. Also look up why they referred to Great Britain. Or called it Albion.

For Britain, Harry and St George! See if you can find that anywhere regarding battles in the war against France which included the Battle Of Agincourt.

You are the idiot. It is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than open it and confirm it.

The English, the Welsh and the British. Classic.

If someone comes from the geographical area of Asia then they are Asian, there doesn't have to be a political body called Asia for that to be the case.
If someone comes from the geographical area of Britain then they are British, there doesn't have to be a political body called Britain for that to be the case.
If an army comes from the geographical area of Britain then it is British.
Britain is the English translation of the Latin Britannia (which included England and Wales).
An army made up of people from England and Wales is from from Britannia, and is British. Referring to them as the British is therefore correct.

I'm aware Great Britain refers to the island, the political union is the United Kingdom of Great Britain (meaning the biggest island) and Northern Ireland. I was pulling the Roman reference to ensure the date predated the battle in question.

I wasn't aware who people were fighting for determined where they came from.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Army

Have a read, especially the bit which says the British Army was founded in 1707. And then explain how something which wasn't formed until 1707 took part in a battle in 1415.

Then make a note not to argue with your intellectual superiors even though that means you will be severely limited to the likes of Ricardo to argue with.

What about someone like St George? He can't be Turkish, it didn't exist then, but the Country he's supposed to be from (Cappadocia?) doesn't exist now.

You are talking bollocks. It was a war between England and France. It was nothing to do with Britain or being British. Which was why the rallying call was"For England, Harry and St George (the St George who is the patron saint of England)"

You would no doubt think the kid who put in a GCE that Napoleon was driven back from Moscow by Soviet Forces. And it was the Italians who invaded us.
