Watching the BBC website, reading the papers and listenting to Talk sport, there seems to be a lot of love out there for Southampton and our England contingent (and that extends to the U21 group too)... Rickies absence from the england squad was announced before the rest on TS this afternoon !! This is an unusual experience for me as saints fan as I am so used to us being written off as flash in the pan.... Wonder what the reaction will be after tomorrow's game especially if J Rod or Lallana score....
The media likes easy stories. Writing about our rise is, for the moment, as easy as it gets...plucky underdog, Doing It The Right Way, etc. Whether we'll continue to be darlings depends entirely on what happens next. If we end up being mid-tablers, there's not much story left.
The PL was getting boring...the media always look for an angle. We are exciting, doing well and have produced England players. Media interest will pass like everything else though.
Must admit, I yawned yesterday, while reading yet another plaudit. But I'd rather have them than not.
Yes, but Mr Pub Pundit from Punditry needs it forced down his throat so that he gags for a pint and has something to text about while he nurses it. Surely they taught you that..?
I'm bored of it all already. Because we all know if we fall away in a few months, if a couple of our players are actually prised from our clutches after the season that, If we end up buying a few 'non homegrown' talents next season............ ......those same pundits will forget what they are saying now and will be saying ' I told you that it wasn't going to work, it was just a lucky run, You can't win anything with youngsters, English footballers are way behind the others' And if we do really well I shall be turning the TV and radio off all summer (apart from the the Saints 11 playing in Brazil next year) so I don't have to hear the shameful bandwagon goings on of the pundits a la the 'Redknapp is the people's choice' saga a couple of years ago.
It's nice but becoming tedious. It is a passing fad and they will continue until a- we are accepted as real contenders for top 4, or b- our form drops. Im hoping it's a.
Or Grimsby Town suddenly take a march up the leagues. To be honest, you can't help the sporting media for jumping all over SFC. The club is the first genuine new and great story to have come out of the Premier League, and perhaps the football world as a whole, in donkey's years. We are all getting a bit piddled off because we've read every story from cover to cover, but there are rival fans and ordinary people out there who are just waking up to the news. This is going to run for quite some time yet, so we can all do ourselves a favour and just let it happen. We have some getting used to as well because our cosy little SFC is being adopted by England.
It is the combination of a story about a team returning from the brink and our supply of England players at a time when it is an issue. And Rickie (because he is loveable). Has to be good for the papers after the borefest of last season's title contest.
P.s. I'm looking forward to the finishing of the Academy/Training Ground. Bet we get huge coverage by Sky when our new best mate Jim White is invited to the unveiling.
We like the Jacks mate and you of course (well the lovely Delia anyway). All three of us are proper football clubs
The media are building us up ready to kick us to death if we fall away later in the season - I'm beginning to feel like the fatted calf being made ready for slaughter!
Very unlikely that our fall from grace will be that dramatic. Confident that we will be top ten at the worst...enough to keep wolves from the door. We are safe from the media unless it turns out that Nicola is involved in the white slave trade and funding our academy with a South American drugs cartel.
I agree, all the praise is flattering even if it a little tedious now, but I can't help feeling they are all waiting for us to fail..
