It's quite a bit different. Duffen took us there by gambling the clubs future, putting it all on black and it came out red. Duffen financed us by high interest bank loans, where if it went tits up he could stroll off and not face any repercussions. Allam has tied himself to us by financing us himself, and rather ironically paying for Duffens tenure aswell. If it goes tits up this time, Allam can't just walk unscathed, he'll face losing a lot of his own money. That for me deserves him more credit than Duffen.
So the nature of their respective looniness is the difference? Duffen made a lot more money for the club. Our marketing and PR under Duffen was better than at any other time in the last decade or so and miles better than it is now. He also spent a **** load that we didn't have but so has Allam. Allam has borrowed it from himself, Duffen from the banks. I don't criticise Allam for loaning us it of course because we needed it at the time but if that's the only difference then I think it pretty much proves my point. Allam deserves no more credit for getting us promoted than Duffen did in 2008.
Surely it was their money that enabled us to get where we are today. They were the ones that appointed SB (when some idiots were suggesting we go for the likes of Lee Clark!) and they are the ones who have backed him to the hilt. Without the Allam's we would probably now be where Portsmouth are - or worse!
I'll stand up and say I voted No, might be a bit quick to judge but the way he spoke in the media this week about the fans and stuff made me dislike him a hell of a lot, fair do's to him he did save the club from going under but so did Adam Pearson and people say he's a load ofcrap too so why cant I say the same about the Allams?
This attitude really winds me up. Typical of the tripe Radio Humberside keep reading out. What do you want, change the name or a club back to where it was 15 years ago? Why do these idiots think that if we don't change the name the club is doomed. It just isn't. It's a spurious, ignorant and devisive argument. And childish. No reason at all for the club to go backwards unless he chucks it and calls in his loans. He doesn't have enough money to do that.
The more I hear Assem, the more I fear our club is at the hands of a complete nut job. I can see a name change, I can see a move out of town, I can see a badge change - I can see all sorts of disruption. Why? Well as he has demonstrated, just because he can. I'd also query his 'Marketing' text books about shorter name = a more powerful brand, it's in all the text books don't you know? Well it wasn't in any of mine, I did a degree in Marketing.
Facebook is a bigger name then Twitter, Coca Cola is bigger then Pepsi etc. But we all know who are the bigger companies.
Some of you are taking this a bit to the extremes. Both coca cola and Pepsi are short names. It's a bit different to the difference in length between hull tigers and hull city association football club. If you're going to rubbish Allam and the things he's said, don't do it by doing what he did and make up utter crap, or you're worse than him, and void of any credibility.
Pretty much agree with this. Some of the comparisons and analogies are embarrassing, and a fair few people seem to be completely missing the point, which is highlighted by the stupid examples.
I agree Allam seems to be a bit bonkers at times and like many men of his generation he has very limited public relations skills, but I also think there's an element of fans having unrealistic expectations of the type of owner we now have. When he took over we needed a sugar-daddy to dig us out of the hole we were in. A savvy businessman like Pearson wasn't enough. We needed hard cash and we needed it quick. We got what we wanted, but at a price. Rich men like Assam Allam do things their way and for their investment they expect full control. It's no surprise he doesn't just want the club as a trinket, he wants to make a profit, which also means reducing his own financial burden. In his eyes he has bought an ailing company and sentiment won't prevent him from making whatever tough decisions he feels he must to rejuvenate it. All of this goes right against the grain with supporters who have traditionally had a more collaborative relationship with owners. We are more used to owners who see us as their biggest asset and try to ensure we are comfortable with any new ideas. We want Allam to fit that profile, but he won't and to be fair he never claimed he did. I think Dr Allam will make this club successful. By getting rid of popular figures like Barmby and A. Pearson and replacing them with Steve Bruce he has shown a ruthless determination to succeed even if the fans don't like it. The club will probably be very different after he has done things his way, so I suppose the choice is whether fans want success or want control.

There plenty of companies with long times are successful. If he can PROVE it'll improve the clubs commercial appeal then I'd understand, but he can't. It also the way he's gone about this. If he had been honest and upfront with idea then I think would of been a little less dismissive about the idea. I've always given him the benefit the doubt, but these interviews tipped me over the edge.
