Has to be MOTD for me. My kid Brother was born in 1979 (now 34). When he was 2/3 years old, he used to come running in singing the tune when he heard the MOTD music. Great memories.
The Big Match for me; Brian Moore, relaxed presentation style and funny guests and sometimes guest presenters, fair few of them QPR. We were pretty good in those days and featured a lot. Bernie the Bolt.
Grandstand for nostalgia. Takes me way back to my childhood home, nice memories. Sportsnight, remember the graphic like it were yesterday, but not the music. Loved the big match vid, old school football, the city ground packed to the rafters, the way stadiums used to look, but don't anymore.
Blimey Nines you have them just about all covered, could have left some for us to choose....... Always liked The Big Match and the late Brian Moore, it always came across as far more relaxed than MOTD which was a little straight laced, took itself a bit too seriously..... I'll have a dig around to see if I can find some more obscure theme tunes.....
Here's the theme tune from the Sunday Game, gaa programme on RTE.
Sorry mate, it was originally intended as a poll. But I don't think that the site is letting us put a poll up. Either that or I've overlooked something. In hindsight I should of removed the video's.
For me it has to be Ski Sunday, but most of them are brilliant in their own way. Sportsnight is a bit overrated though.
How could you leave out this one?
Got to be the Chain for me, the original BBC version not the one they're using now that seems to have been softened into more of a 90s dance feel than the original (guess it fits with the softening of the cars from V10/12 beasts to V8s with power steering and everything now though). Football wise I don't know if it was the theme to the programme, but the chorus from the Champions League official theme music that was played on ITV in the 90s (don't know if it still is or not) at the beginning/end of advert breaks is mine. Probably just because as a kid it was the only televised games I saw so that is the theme tune to the game for me.
Test Match Special for me. All those summer days spent watching the games in the summer hols. The Big Match is a close 2nd.
Yep, the cricket is certainly an infectious and totally summery tune. What about the old Pot Black theme tune?...
"For those of you who are watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green"
Here's the original MOTD theme tune from 1964, presented by Kenneth Wolstenholm...
Good man...I loved that too Cant see how it can be anything but that or Formula 1 (Fleetwood mack) PS..have some rep for that
Cheers. I could of said the same thing rrrrrs. I remember standing in the front room holding the aerial in and around the telly until we got a decent enough picture to be able to view it. My dear old dad used to chuckle when the best place to get a reception was when I was stood behind the TV. '' That's it! Keep it there son. '' He used to shout in his Irish accent. It still brings a smile to my face when I think back to when as a kid, I'd be able to stay up late to watch the football or boxing with him.
Here's another great video. You only used to hear these tunes for six weeks every four years, but when you hear them again they could almost represent the soundtrack to your life.
I have similar memory's 9's, I remember watching some really obscure 'sports' on World of Sport, still don't know how Dickie Davis kept a straight face when introducing world barrel jumping!
