Will anybody on here be watching the upcoming England friendlies?

I hope Hodgson will give Forster at least 90 minutes between the sticks and experiment with new faces, while keeping a spine of international experience through the middle of the park.

Nope. England bores me to tears. I hate the hype ('The Golden Generation <yikes>), most of the players (A.Cole, Terry, Welbeck, Defoe etc) and the crass nicknames (Stevie G, Lamps, Becks, JT). The way Hodgson got stitched up last time by a member of his own dressing room summed it up.

I will be watching. Although I am a fan of England, I very rarely get excited by an international match, I'm not sure why but the comparison with club football is laughable for me. I for one want to see Lalana play. Also I agree with Vol I don't particularly like many of the old guard Gerrand and Beckham being the exception, and I for one felt Baines should have replaced Cole in the team much earlier then he has.

It depends if Andy Townsend is watching them or not.

Beckham is getting a knighthood apparently. Strange that, as he doesn't live in this country, pay tax in this country, and last played a competitive game of football for his country in 2002

I wont go out of my way to watch it, if its on in the pub then I'll pay attention.

Agree about Forster though - you could tell he was the real deal when he was on loan at Norwich in our first season in League One. Remember him having a stormer when they beat us 1-0.

Agreed smhbcfc. It'll have to be served up on a plate for me to watch it. I do hope Hodge finds the grass in the changing room and stitches him up!

2002? Bit early for his international retirement that date isn't it? Pretty sure I saw him play at the 2006 world cup and in qualifiers for 2008 Euro's after the wolly with the brolly dropped him at first. And if any of our "Golden Generation" of footballers deserve the knighthood it is Beckham.

I went on a corporate last night.Hadnt been at the new wembley .Basically like a big posh hotel with a football ground attached.Hadnt been to wembley since the greatest day in the history of the world 25/05/98 so it was a bit odd not really caring who won .
My first ever visit to wembley was for the 1975 cup final between west ham and fulham .This is a story of how times have changed,I was still at school and a mate of mine supported west ham .They allocated the tickets by producing a voucher in the programme of the previous home game so he bought 9 programmes ,one ticket per voucher. All you had to do was queue up and pay face value which from memory was about £3.You could still "bunk in " through windows in the stadium in those days so there must have been 110000 in the ground.
3 days later we got promoted at the valley [I think that was the bobby goldsmith goal.happy days.

I chose that date on purpose Ted. It was when he scored the famous equaliser v Greece at Old Trafford which took us to Japan. He did nothing in the finals themselves. He never did. I can't see how you can give a knighthood (a la Bobby Charlton, World Cup winner) to someone who never actually won anything, and doesn't pay tax in the UK ?

He scored the penalty that gave us the 1-0 win over Argentina. Then in 2006 he scored the free-kick that took us past Ecuador in the last 16. So I think it's a bit unfair to say he never performed in the finals themselves.

As it happens, I agree with you that he doesn't deserve a knighthood, as the likes of Charlton and Matthews are on a level far above him. But then again, if Baldrick can get a knighthood...

Sir Dicky only moved to the Virgin Islands for health reasons. Just thought I'd put you straight on that one. I'm sure there must be an excellent health service there.
