Kenny Dalglish wants to bring Gael Clichy to Anfield. The player is not willing to extend
his contract. He is having twelve months left and Arsenal would not allow him to go
for free.Do you rate Clichy as a left back.?<ok>

Not really; No doubt he's better than what we've got at the moment - but I'd prefer someone younger and with more of an attacking flair.

He's a bit of a liability at times.

He is prem proven at a decent level, is an international player and £5m for a 25 year old is very good business. I can't see whats wrong with this deal (I'd imagine Arsenal would want more but thats the way the world of contracts work)

At that sort of price it's a no brainer if you ask me.

I agree with that, experienced left back, knows the league, and is £10 million cheaper than the deluded price that the toon are quoting for Enrique.I reckon Clichy is a better player.RVF doesn't rate him however and is hoping Arsenal get rid.My ideal player for the left side would be Leighton Baines, but theres little chance of the BS selling to us with Gollum in charge.

Always feels a bit weird at first taking players from rival clubs, but you get used to it.
Clichy's never been big on my radar but that's probably 'cos I just had it in my head that he's an Arsenal player and that's that.
For £5m how can you go wrong? If he doesn't fit in we could sell him on without losing a fortune. Depends on wages as well I suppose.

Hes a good player proven in the prem but if we're going for a left back from Arsenal id rather go for Gibbs!

    Good points about him
    -Very quick
    -Lots of stamina
    -Good at making interceptions
-On his day very good at tackling

    Bad points
-Is always prone to moments where his brain freezes and he gives the ball away in dangerous positions
-His attacking ability is non existent, never seen worse shooting or crossing ability in a full back
-Gets caught unawares defensively quite a lot

All in all for 5 mill he is a good buy. If your manager can get the promise out of him that he showed in his earlier years then he will be the best left back in the premiership.

He is more injury prone than Aurelio so I don't recommend him

Man City and De Jong come to mind when I hear that

16m for a player with 6 months left on his contract <doh>

I'd take Clichy for 5m in a heartbeat, proven prem player, international, only 25

Clichy cannot be rated in the same way he would be at a team with solid midfield, he has played at arsenal, a team that leaves their defensive exposed more than france did in 1939.

Clichy will look infinately better in a team with a solid midfield where he can focus on his job and not have to always make the weight up for a lack of defensive cover in the centre. I'd say sign him, we can turn him into a great player

Im not convinced by him, he's been a bit poor for a couple of season's now, maybe it's because he does'nt get much help defending from whoever is playing LM for Arsenal but im not that keen. £5mil is a good price though.

I'd also add "weak aerially" to his bad points because we often put Dirk Kuyt up against him when we played Arsenal, knowing that he could beat Clichy aerially (if nothing else)

Clichy is "the safe option" (which is ironically what we hoped Konchesky was when we signed him) because he has PL experience for a top club and is decent even if he's not able to rival Cole or Evra

I'd still prefer for us not to sign him though. I'd rather we were more ambitious and signed Cissokho instead

5m in todays market is peanuts, even if we only got 1 good season out of him itd be cheaper than what we got out of 'free' joe cole and 'free' jovanovic

I'd dive on him for 5m

How many players look bad in one team, get a move and look much better elsewhere. It does happen and he's worth the risk

Glen Johnson has had many a brain fart

Happy with that, he would be a good addition, he has good experience, we can work out the kinks in his game I reckon

I won't be disappointed if we get Clichy - he is a very good LB after all, but I was hoping for a bit more of an ambitious swoop for say Coentrao or Cissohko. Then again, if Steve clark can work his magic on Clichy, then we might just be in for a bargain.
