Jols role hasn't changed in my view. It's a straight swap for Billy Mack for Rene (I always think of Allo Allo with the name Rene, plus I can't spell his surname). Better training, better tactics, better better better all over! Don't forget they both know each other quite well and Jol wanted him as his coach for a while. Renewed Fulhamish optimism from me! The world looks brighter again. I wish everyone would get behind Jol and the boys again. Faint hope I imagine.
I sign to that but yet to be convinced by changes on the pitch. They still have 10 days till our next game... Come on Fulham. Definitely a brighter day since yesterday... Literally as well as the weather has improved!
Rene on Jol: "It will work very similar to how I worked with Sir Alex Ferguson. Martin is obviously a very, very experienced manager in the game. I think it comes to a time in his life - as a manager as well - when he has got experience and he wants to step back a little bit and give the groundwork over to somebody like myself. I think we can perfectly work well together. Rene on the Team: "People must not forget that Fulham have played a lot of strong teams already. They've played Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United so they have had a tough run. "I think the key is now making sure that hopefully I can bring a new sort of energy to the whole place because they have got good enough footballers. Fulham is a football team, that's what they are good at. "They just need to make sure they do the basics right, take responsibility, be disciplined and work hard and then the results will come." Rene on Berbatov: "It is without doubt the talent Dimitar brings to the table and also it is very clear sometimes the frustration that goes with it. "But I think that what you get with that sort of player, they are geniuses in some ways and I always find it a challenge to make sure that we can serve those players in the right way that they can bring out the best in themselves and serve the best purpose for the team." Source: http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/9025995/ These quotes suggest that Rene will be directing more than just on the training pitch and that we can anticipate change. Change for the better, that is. PS Included in the link above is some background around his joining us, and an interview with Rene - terrific accent by the way! The interview was made when he left Man United so isn't directly Fulham related. However well worth listening to for an insight into his coaching/training pitch ideas. Could be a shock waiting for some of the squad when he gets going at Motspur Park
This gives an interesting splash of new information - or at least information that I hadn't seen before. http://sg.sports.yahoo.com/news/rev...-managers-job-save-fulham-130000199--spt.html Think Billy Mac needs to hit the road reading this, to be honest.
Thanks C58 and Fulhaman for sharing. Very interesting read. Hopefully he can inject some of his thinking and intense on the training that we are missing...
Yes. I mean, isn't getting your players physically fit enough to play 90 minutes the most basic pre-requisite of any coach at any level. And yet we seem to have one who thinks a stroll in the late autumn sun would be enough to see of the likes of Suarez and Rooney. It does make sense as well. It's not like the players we have are without talent. Bent, Berbatov, Ruiz, etc. are all International quality players and you don't become a bad player in the course of half a season. Lose form for a while, certainly, but not your natural talent. Hopefully this guy can get the training levels up, get the man management working properly again and, please God, persuade Jol to play a few of our young lads (I noticed the Telegraph picked up on this and did a piece on why it was odd Jol wasn't playing such highly rated youngsters).
Hahaha I am not off Jol's back just yet. He just bought some time. As the players he needs to show that he accepts Rene's recommendations. I suppose the friendly match had exactly this purprose to give him a live picture of the team But it might be the case that the coaching was an issue therefore Jol asked for Rene to come and help out which is credit to him. I think we have an issue with fitness and is obvious that we don't man-mark at all and we are always second on the ball. Something is lacking. Fingers crossed will be solved. There is time to fix a lot of things but not time to keep on the same track!
"Never Fear, Rene's Here". And putting them through their paces, according to Adel Taarabt - "Fulham have been buoyed by the appointment of Head Coach Rene Meulensteen recently – and Taarabt has been impressed by the Dutchman’s training sessions during the 49-year-old’s short time at Motspur Park. “I’d heard about him but I didn’t know him as a person or a coach,” stated Taarabt. “I’ve worked with him now for five or six days and he’s unbelievable. The sessions he puts on are amazing. He understands the Premier League and how important it is to keep possession of the ball. The players are so happy with the sessions. They’re hard work, though; everyone comes off the training pitch saying ‘I’m dead, I need to sleep!’ “Everything is intensity, intensity, intensity and working on in-game situations. It’s what we needed and I think he’ll bring a lot to Fulham.” Swansea arrive in SW6 on Saturday with Taarabt hopeful the Whites can put a stop to City’s possession-based game. He said: “We need to prevent that – we want to have control of the ball and dominate games. So we need to press them. It’s been too easy for other teams at times against us. We need to take responsibility now and control games, especially at home. If Swansea can do it, why can’t we do it? That’s what we’re working on with Rene – to try and control games, to not give the ball away cheaply and defend as a team.” Link tot he Club's piece on Adel: http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2013/november/21/fighting-hard
