It makes you proud. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ner-Tony-Jimenez-set-second-court-battle.html
Jheez, although when they first took over the club were we not all aware that these people were a bit shifty?
My view on the current hierarchy is thus..... They took us on and to a certain extent 'saved us' from almost certain administration, they installed a young, up and coming manager with an affinity to the club that would bridge the ever increasing gap between the club and its supporters. They gave said manager sufficient backing to assemble a squad good enough to get us out of league one. Ever since, all they have done in my eyes is run the club 'functionally'. Squad funding seems to have dried up as has by the looks of things has funding to other areas of the club such as the pitch etc. The club also seem to be assembling a long list of enemies in terms of disgruntled ex employees and old 'business partners' of Jiminez. In short, I for be will forever appreciate what the current administration did for the club in our of need, but they ave taken us as far as it would appear they are prepared to and should do the decent thing and get out should suitable new owners be found
The same thing allegedly happened with Peter Varney & Rick Everitt. Jiminez's tactic seems to be to take it to the brink, and then settle at the last min, probably knowing he has got a weak case. Someone told me that TJ has allegedly got a court case coming up with Gus Poyet in the New Year for reasons allegedly similar to the one he just lost v Dennis Wise. Forget Toothless Trusts and boring cat fights amongst ex Fans Directors about who the Most Important Fan is, we should be concentrating our efforts on encouraging TJ to clear off, IMO
I find myself agreeing again with you Vol, this is a worrying trend. Can you post something about getting rid of Powell so I can get back to normal.
I agree, but how can you persuade him that it's in his financial interest to clear off, because that's probably the only thing that he would listen to. He's clearly extremely thick-skinned, and wouldn't be in the slightest upset by what the fans thought of him. Every so often there are take-over rumours, and there have been reports that he wants £40m. for the club. I don't know who has his ear, but someone needs to tell him to be more realistic.
I am not sure that is factually accurate in either case. If you have a weak case you never take it to the door of the Court, it just runs up costs and puts you at a huge disadvantage. So I expect the case against Wise could have gone either way. it is also subject to an appeal. As far as RE is concerned that was not the case and RE played it to the wire, for his maximum benefit, safe in the knowledge that he would not get hit with costs orders. Tribunal rules are very different to the Court rules. I really think Jimmy deserves a bit of slack here. And to think he will sell of cheap is just pie eyed madness, why should he? We are not a charity and he has to be fair come up with the cards when called upon, the team and management might be the ones that are preventing a fair price.
Ten senior employees have left Charlton since Jiminez arrived, if you include Gary Haines. They can't all have been crap, can they? Jiminez has also been involved in at least five major court cases during his time at Charlton. Ultimately you have to accept that if it looks like a pig, smells like a pig, and oinks like a pig, then yes, it is a f------g pig.
I am not saying, I don't smell bacon but you have to remember this was a failing business and those that have been pushed out were part, or the direct cause of that failing. You can't expect any business to be run as a tea club. Its football, if your not good enough, then expect to get replaced-those are the rules. Clearly, those that were moved on were not up to the job. Remember that there were part of a TUPE transfer and had an opportunity to prove themselves capable as employees, they were given a chance and were deemed unacceptable by current management. Its life and happens every day, in every type of employment. I do not feel sorry at all for them. I seem to recall nobody crying tears when we got relegated from the prem and nearly half of the staff, the woman's team, the academy and loads of admin lost their jobs.
How do you know that RE played it to the wire for his own benefit? The answer is you don't. If Jiminez had such a good case against RE and Varney why did he settle out of court? Why have ten employees of the Club left since he was in charge? You are really in denial Typical, as Vol says if it looks like a pig and smells like a pig it is a pig.
err I do Dick, I do. If you can look up the tribunal rules on costs and procedure, cross check them with the CPR and then get back to me. You will find technically that neither case was settled out of Court. Wise went to a trial hence the judgment and the tribunal was settled at the Court door (technically at Court). Factually you are wrong on both counts. Denial is one thing, ignorance is another. 10 employees leaving the club is small potatoes to how many lost their jobs and position in the previous regimes. Discuss.
I think you can fairly argue that the Club was slow off the mark to maximise certain revenue streams, but I certainly would'nt place either RE or Wendy Perfect in that category. They both sweated buckets on the fiver initiative and Valley Express precisely to drum up more bums on seats after our double relegation. Don't forget we had a CEO during this period, one Steve Waggott, who the accounts showed was earning over 500k a year while our business was sharply contracting ! Not many other businesses would suffer that. And who presided over this calamity, and many others besides ? Yep, its that original man of the people/ hero of CL himself, Dicky Murray !
Typical is correct, the rules on tribunals mean that the costs are not borne by the appellant employee. Had RE foregone his tribunal right and made a case at the county court then it would have been different. This means that settling the case at the doors of the tribunal is more frequent than not, since it is the last time the appellant has leverage before their own dirty washing is aired in the publicity of the tribunal. The costs to the club up until the tribunal hearing are lower, but assuming there is a specialist (solicitor or barrister) to be involved for the tribunal dates and a lot of evidence then the costs then spiral. As it was, RE played it down to the wire and presumably maximised his settlement on that basis. The ten employees that have left the club, have they all been replaced by people on similar wages or have some overhead savings been made and fewer replacements brought in on lower wages? We wont see that until the accounts are produced but this could well be the outcome. Agreed the savings probably wont cover the cost of one player but the adage of pennies and pounds come to mind. I am not saying that I applaud Jiminez for good governance and perfect business practice but reckon that some of the mud being thrown at him is without foundation
Accepted - but R Murray is not Jiminez. R Murray has had his nose in the trough and still does. The criticism should be placed at his trotters more than Jimi. At least Jimi finds the cash each month to keep the club running. Did Wendy not resign, it may have been an 'forced' resignation but if she was not dismissed, we have to take it at face value and she left of her accord. I can't forgive RE for the Valley Express which was a marketing disaster, which started in the prem, completely dumbed down our attendance and disintegrated into a shopping day for grannies and gutter monkeys from Gravesend while in Div 1. RE made a lot of errors and lost his way under the weight of his own ego, he may be CAFC, but he was not infallible and certainly not bulletproof despite him hanging around Murrays backside.
I don't usually pay much attention to rumours, but the drip-drip of second-hand (or third-hand) information about the treatment of employees at The Valley is not good at all, and paints a poor impression of the way the club is now run. It was also reliably reported quite recently that no contract talks had even been offered to the senior players. Not knocking what the owners did when they took over, but you're only as good as your last game.
@ typical I can tell you for a fact (you will just have to take my word on this one) that SMEs and others with links to Charlton have struggled to get paid recently. That in turn has impacted on Charlton's reputation within the industry. I don't see Jiminez as a white knight at all. I was grateful at the time that he appeared to bring to an end the calamity that was Feet Of Clay Muzza....now we are stuck with them both.
