So for the first time since the 80's we have the prospect of three Saints players being on the pitch for England in one or both of the above games! I have to say until Rickie's recent call up England games bar major tournaments had little if any appeal but although not yet stoked I'm hugely looking forward to these matches. With the injuries announced already it looks fairly certain that Adam will start agianst Chile but how great would it be to see all three names on Roy's team sheet. Both games should be good tests with fringe players looking to force their way into World Cup squads. I thinik we'll get a narrow win against Chile but can't see anything other than defeat against the Germans. Let's hope they all come back injury free and with luck bring back a couple of goals to go with their caps! COYR!
And there actually aren't any 'experimental players from small clubs' unless you include Saints. Keepers aside, every player in the squad is drawn from the current top eight.
If all 3 Saints players are in the same game, they will have to remember to pass to anyone else. Sadly, I think it will be Rickie on the bench on Friday (though he should get on), whereas JRod and Lallana may start. No point otherwise as Roy wants to look at them.
4 Strikers going to the WC 1.. Rooney 2. Sturridge 3. Welbeck 4. Walcott Lambert has a chance but only if we have injuries , and no Hooper has zero chance of going but is still young enough to break into the side in the future if he can cut it .
Ignore him, he's just trolling. If our lads keep playing as they are, they are all shoe-in's for the plane. I include Clyne in that. Just as if any of Norwich's players show some form they have a chance. I really believe Hodgson when he says the door is open for anyone who deserves it.
Not trolling at all, just an observation from all of the International tournaments in my life time. You are doing brilliantly by the way this season.
I really don't understand how you can compare any of these strikers against Lambert he should be the number 1 choice to lead the line in the world cup next summer! Which other England striker can do all of these? Lead the line on his own and hold up the ball so well to play in our attacking forwards? Drop into midfield and play the killer pass to set-up a goal. Can score from a free kick? Doesn't miss from the penalty spot? Can score with his head? Such a great bloke! Sturridge???....really?
Forwards: Jermain Defoe, Rickie Lambert, Jay Rodriguez, Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge (foot injury), Danny Welbeck (out of both Chile and Germany matches). Welbeck and Walcott are classed as forwards.
