There isn't a massive lot of footage of him outside of 1966, but what I have seen he seems to have been a fantastic player. Until Luis Figo (on of my fave players) came along there wasn't a Portuguese player even close to him.
Who is it, Eusebio? Watched one of the 'worlds greatest' or whatever they're called by SkySports on him. Very good watch.
From my husband...." My biggest disappointment in 1966 was missing the world cup competition. I planned earlier that year to watch all of Eusebio's matches and had a ticket for the final. I also started planning to leave the UK for South Africa by ship and the ship sailed a couple of days into the tournament. Eusebio won the Golden Boot and Portugal had their best ever world cup result being beaten in the semi by England. In South Africa a favourite holiday destination over Christmas/New Year for single guys was Lourenco Marques( now Maputo) in Mozambique which was where Eusebio was born and lived for a while. I went there in 66/67 and 67/68 and Eusebio had almost God-like status.I had a peek at the house where he was born. Di Stefano(another favourite of mine) rated him as the best player of all time."
Thanks to all for your forbearance on my OP. In the words of Mrs Slocombe's boss." You've all done very very well!"
