It was a while back that I was having a chat on a walk to a match with David Beck ( BrixtonR, RIP ) that we were discussing our board. He happened to mention that he would like it if our posters could add photo's to articles on our site to make it more appeasing and enhance our board.. I decided that I would make the effort to learn. After a few attempts of failing miserably, I did eventually learn how to do it. Just like Eamon Holmes, Norway and Kilburn and DT among others have done. I have had a few requests and have seen a few posts on our board by our members asking for help on how to do this. Adding a photo or video to a post enhances it and makes it look easier on the eye. It also makes our board look more attractive and professional to our current members and any future posters. While I don't proffer myself to be an authority on this.. ( Maybe those with more technical skills can help us out. ) I can offer a basic 'Idiots' guide to posting 'Videos' and 'Photo's. Let's begin with the easier of the two...... Video's If you don't post a video correctly the link will look like this.............. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyOOO2GvjN4 And hardly anyone will click on it to view it. It's boring and no one has enough time for this ****! We're double busy OK! But if we take a minute (My Newt? Is there another way to differentiate minute to minute? ) moment, instead .. 'left' click on the film tab located in the panel above the dialogue of where we usually post we will see a new box open up. To do this.. ( Usually off of 'youtube' ) if you copy the 'browser bar link' ( Like the one above, ... Highlight it by left clicking on your mouse and dragging it across the screen until the browser bar link turns blue. ) Then right 'click ' and another menu should pop-up. This menu will then contain a list. . . Cut, Copy, etc. Left click on copy. Now click on the film tab ( The fifth icon from the right above the dialogue box. ) A new box will pop-up. On the white bit underneath the bit that says '' Enter your video clip URL below.'' Right click on this white box and another pop-up will show a list.... 'Undo, paste etc.' Left click on 'paste' and your link should appear in the white box. And will have this inside it.............. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyOOO2GvjN4 Click on 'OK' and you should see the link appear in your dialogue box with the 'video' link wrapped around it. It should then appear like this....... Much better ain't it? Photo's 1. Find the picture you want to post. ( It has to end in .jpg .jpeg .png or .gif ) 2. Right click on the picture. ( It should come up with a list. ) 3. Left 'click' on 'copy image url.' 4. Go to the thread you want to post the picture on. 5. On the main menu above the dialogue box.. Hover over the picture tab next to the film one. It should come up with.. 'Insert Image.' 6. Left click on this. 7. Another box should appear. It should have the 'heading'... ''Insert Image.'' 8. Right click on the white banner that says ''Url.'' and left click on ''paste.'' 9. Your picture jpg, jpeg, png, gif should then be printed inside the white 'url' box. ***nb.. If you are starting a thread you get a different box show up. This box will have two tabs. 'From computer' and 'from Url.' Click on... 'From Url' and paste your picture into the white box. Click the 'tick box' that says ...''Retrieve remote file and reference locally'' this prevents your picture being miniaturised or as an attachment. To practise click on this link......... http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02714/joey-barton_2714938b.jpg You will then see a picture of Barton and the 'Bottle Incident.' Right click on the image which should read... http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02714/joey-barton_2714938b.jpg and paste it as above. You should then see this when you have copied and pasted........... please log in to view this image Why not practice on this thread by posting your efforts below. No one will care if you don't get it straight away. If you get stuck hopefully someone on here will explain it better than I have. I'm willing to do all that I can to help. Good luck
Another handy hint is similar to what occurred with the IrishR's at the weekend when posting pictures. If you try to download a picture from your computer or device, Not606 may reject it on size requirements. What I do is send it to my Twitter or Facebook account and copy it off of there. They re-size it for you and convert it into a jpeg, jpg, or png for you. You can then simply copy it off of there and re-post it on here.
Another handy hint is to open a tab showing this page so that you can easily refer to it. Whilst opening another tab to practise on, without having to switch between the two.
I'm sorry Queens, but I feel that a lot of posters will feel overwhelmed initially. I have tried to simplify it as much as possible, but persevere and post away.. (No one gives a toss if it doesn't work straight away. ) No one cares, and this is the thread to practice on. Post away, if the result doesn't come out we'll all gang up and help you through it. That's the point. We're all in this together. There's no judgement on this thread. If you haven't done it before... try now. It's a great feeling when you eventually do it. Give it a go. If it doesn't work first time then try again. You can always delete it, if it bothers anyone that much. But if you leave a mistake there, then someone can and will always help. All of us are always learning every single day. And we will all benefit from that. No mistake. . . . Feel free to post away everyone, together we will get all of our members capable of posting better content
It doesn't always give you the choice to "copy image url" straight from this menu. If this is the case, choose "properties", and you'll find the url there. Instead of using the buttons to add pictures, you can just type: please log in to view this image
Really good tips Nines. 1) For YouTube Video posts, I have a copy of the required embed statement saved, so each time I just replace the unique code (in two places). So in Nines' example that code is the dyOOO2GvjN4 part. This is my embed statement (a classic Warnock dressing room one) - if you reply with quote, you will see the text statement behind it. So I just change the kQtWVcFpvHg unique part for dyOOO2GvjN4 (in 2 places) and voila:- 2) For Photos off the internet, right mouse click on the desired image you wish to post, then select properties, and copy the URL Address, then paste into the following statement:- please log in to view this image so using Nines' example http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02714/joey-barton_2714938b.jpg we get back to our dear Joey with the bottle on his head:- please log in to view this image 3) Images stored on your computer are a bit more tricky to post (as I discovered yesterday), and you generally have to resize the image to fit the max allowed posting size permitted by not606. So for the images (photos) that I wished to post, I copied them off my computer (in My Pictures folder) using Shift + Print Screen, then Pasted into basic Paint (much more fancy photo editors out there) and re-sized the image using the Select expandable box, to meet the posting requirements. I then copied that reduced image back into Word and saved it as a Jpg image file (now dramatically reduced in size), which I could then post as an ATTACH file via not606 - it appears that each image off your computer is stored as a unique numbered Attach code. Hope I haven't muddied the waters here with my suggestions, but these are my methods, and I'm sure others here have there own tricks - likely some good tips for posting Smartphone images live from a match or those fine Irish R's Kilkenny snaps.
That was easy (Thanks Nines!)
please log in to view this image Many problems, but...it only worked when I unticked the box "Retrieve remote file and reference locally". Why's that then?
I only ever use my phone to post; is it possible to do videos/pictures this way or must a computer be used? Incidentally I can't do smileys either because they don't appear in the post despite being included in my submission. Any one else experience this? Thanks in advance.
What if you haven't got a Twitter or Facebook account? Some of us still actually talk to people although I appreciate I'm a declining minority on this.... Many times I've tried to 'add' a picture / photo only to be told to resize it - no idea how to do that so give up and put the radio on
You can do it on your phone Twins depending on which one you have. It can be very fiddly though I've found.
I'm in the same boat 9's, I've an iPhone 4s and as you've seen i can post pics sometimes but not others. it can be annoying especially as there's no reason given as to why they don't get posted.
You don't have to use Facebook or Twitter as a substitute for a social life Wubs, I just use them as a 'tool' mainly. The idea of using it to convert pictures is a good example. Although it seems that Kilburn ( see above ) has a very good and different way of remedying this. Twitter and Facebook are also very good for receiving information on any interests you have. For instance, QPR, you can follow many sources relating to the R's. Players, staff, fan sites, media outlets and other fans etc. Your 'feed' or 'timeline' will then only provide you with information on QPR and you can keep up to date with anything pertaining to the club. This is also true of any subject or hobby you may have. Another example is this one. Let's use Col as an example, Col is interested in falconry. I've just gone onto twitter and searched #falconry, within a second I had access to hundreds of groups, societies and many different pictures and information on falcons. I know you can also find this on the internet but using social media gives it a more personal experience, as it can connect you with people that you would of not been able to access before.
That's very interesting Nines but sometimes its nicer to get a book from the library. Also I think I get enough QPR related nonsense from here and the BBC website; not sure I need any more info tbh. Sometimes its all too much this 24hr revolving news, especially when half of it isn't really news at all. I must say that having met Col he didn't strike me as a bloke who's into falconry. The things you learn eh?
