    Striker claims JPT goal prize

It’s a great honour to win the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Ultimate Finish award"

    Patrick Agyemang

Patrick Agyemang has won the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy round two Ultimate Finish award.

The striker was chosen for his stunning run and finish in Pompey’s 2-1 triumph at Oxford last month.

He comfortably beat off competition from the other nine nominees, receiving 52 per cent of the fans fans’ vote.

Agyemang will receive a trophy and be given automatic entry into the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Ultimate Finish of the Season competition, which will showcase the best goals throughout the campaign.

“It’s a great honour to win the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Ultimate Finish award, particularly as there were some really good goals scored in round two,” said Agyemang.

“The goal gave us an important advantage against Oxford in what was a very close game. It meant we could catch them on the counter-attack as they pushed for an equaliser.

“I was able to skip by a couple of defenders and it was pure instinct to use the outside of my right boot. Luckily for me there was enough power and curve to find the bottom corner.

“I’m always pleased to win any award, but it’s more special when it’s voted for by the fans.

“I hope to score a few more goals as we chase a place at Wembley.”

Ben Wilde, brand and sponsorship manager for Johnstone’s Paint, said: “To secure over 50 per cent of the vote in any competition is brilliant and Patrick is obviously a well-deserved winner.

“This Ultimate Finish competition was filled with spectacular goals and our congratulations go to Patrick on his fantastic strike.

“He has helped Pompey get a sniff of Wembley and is now in with a very good chance in the Ultimate Finish of the Season award.”

Any predictions on the score and attendance?

    I'll go 1-1 and a penalty shoot-out in front of 2,150

2-1 to Pompey, with goals from David Connolly & Rickie Holmes, in front of say a 2,222 crowd.

I hope we do win as it will be our last chance to get drawn at home in a cup competition this season (area semis are 2 legs?)

Will the players be reimbursing the fans who travelled up to Wales to watch that garbage?

Sounded like we were weak down the left again. Unfortunately we dont really have any naturally left-sided defenders available with Butler out on loan and Painter out injured. And we're missing an experianced head at the back which means that, not for the first time this season, I have lamented our failure to work out a deal with Rocha. If nothing else we need to bring in a defensive coach because its in that area that we are suffering most. Maybe we should approach Dejan Stefanovic and see if he's interested.

How can we concede another AFTER they'd gone down to 10 men? The only conclusion i can draw is the players simply could not be bothered. That or Newport are miles better than us.

I missed most of the game - are you sure there was no desire to put up a fight from the players? And I wouldn't agree that they aren't motivated in the slightest - they mostly seem to be very happy to be playing for Pompey and quite motivated. But they are what they are.......... a small squad of players who are pretty good at what they do, at the level they do it at. They are playing at this level for a reason.

I just don't get this pie-in-the-sky belief that a different manager will suddenly get them winning every game. I've seen calls to get Neil Warnock in, calls to even get Steve Cotterill back. The fact is that once they go over the white line it's up to the players. They are a bunch of nice blokes, but stars they are not.

Just get used to more nights like tonight is my guess.

I went to Eastleigh v Farnborough last Saturday and frankly, either of those sides are probably better than Portsmouth if they played Portsmouth at home. Also, Farnborough went away to the league leaders, put in a decent performance, were competitive holding out for 93 minutes and could have easily won, in contrast Portsmouth went to the bottom team in the league (Accrington) and couldn't even hold on to a lead. Pathetic. What do you think is going to happen when Portsmouth travel to Oxford? Or Fleetwood? It'll be a ****ing massacre.
