What do you mean by holding midfield ?
If that is Central/Defensive midfield players there is Parker, Sidwell, Boateng, Karagounis.
In Attacking Midfield you have Kasami, Ruiz, Taarabt and occasionally Berbatov.

Both Sidwell and Parker are playing box to box which results to leaving gaps especially when we play a system of 4-2-3-1 or 4-2-2-2.

When we played with Murphy and Etuhu for example one was always at the back in front of the back 4 to sweep.

What we see recently is that playing very high up we leave the back four exposed. Given that our forwards do not chase back especially Berba and Ruiz the midfielders do not have the time to get back. In order to avoid that we play a high line trying to stay more compact and resulted in teams like Man U and Liverpool having a party as our defence is not the fastest...

My view was to switch to 4-3-2-1 or 4-3-1-2. Always a midfielder in front of the back 4. Or let's say 4-5-1 which can change to the previous.

A player who doesn't wander all over the park.

Parker could do it but not when he's fielded with Sidwell as one of only two central midfielders. Boateng could do it but not when he's fielded with Sidwell as one of only two central midfielders.

No doubt we could debate for quite a while the capability of all the players you mention SuperBri and their best postions. However it wasn't individual players my reply was about. It was his tactics when you asked "Are Jol's tactics any different than any other PL manager?" The gaps we leave all over the pitch speak for themselves -

Sorry but one freezed frame doesn't prove that it's the tactics and not the players fault.
As you say we could argue this all night long, I'm not convinced that we don't play with a defensive midfielder each game.

Theres such a gap between midfield and our forwards that at times I think we have 3 defensive midfielders. Trouble is teams still score with bloody 3 of them!

Must be a quiet day on the QPR board, never have I known a QPR fan to take such interest in FFC matters.

Bandit, this pretty much sums things up for me too. I don't look forward to games at the moment and with the arrival of the rugby union autumn internationals, I probably won't watch another game until December.

It's sad, but I just can't get excited when I pay a big chunk of my annual wage to see guys who earn in a week what I earn in a year but who could not care less about Fulham or its dedicated fans.

To be honest if it wasn't for Scott Parker I would have given up on the whole squad.

Exactly. Last Saturday I asked my manager what the score was as he was listening to the game and he said it was 3-0, no great surprise, followed by another update of a fourth goal being scored, I just didn't care to be honest. It could have been 10-0 and I don't think I would have minded all that much, we are already the laughing stock of the league and what's worse is that we have an incompetent chairman who knows precious little about football and therefore won't sack our 'highly rated' manager. International games aren't exactly much fun for me either being a Wales fan.

    Pot / Kettle...<laugh>

Not really mate. i read a lot of boards and some of my closest mates back home are Fulham fans.

I used to go to Fulham when Jimmy Hill was in charge and you were almost shut down.
Never had anything against FFC and enjoy the banter....so i ask you. Who do you think will come ?

Must be months since I last posted on your board. Truth is, since you've been doing rather well, it's hard to wind you guys up! (with ourselves doing so badly of course)

My perfect combination would be Hoddle as manager with Murphy as assistant. Hoddle has the tactical nous and faith in youngsters we are looking for, and Murphy can instil some passion into the side.

TBH mate, I'm a massie fan of Hoddle as a manager & think he developed our best ever England team. Also liked him as a player too.
Shame he couldnt keep his mouth shut.
i think he'd do well with your squad like you say he does give the youngtser confidence and a decent chance
got to wonder why he's not been doing much lately though?

this is the worse team I can remember, I just spoke to a employee of ffc, and if I said his name you will all know him, he did tell me what we already know, the team spirit is a mess, berba most times eats on his own, duff is playing with the under 21s, brede has a nerve injury, that effects him when he jumps(hence the palace goal) they are not working hard enough in training. we need to get rid out of jol before its to late

I think it is rather obvious... Berba doesn't bother going to the ref in any disputed incident neither he can motivate the players as he can hardly motivate himself!!!

    * Agreed, It's Jol persistence with only the two when every time they're getting over run that's persuaded me it's time to rid.

** Agreed again, Boateng, Parker and Kara/Sidwell with one of Boateng/ Parker always holding, of course there's no guarantee it would work but plan A sure aint.

I see Dan Petrescu is being linked in the Mail today.

Oh and btw, there's a survey of supporters going on here, tinyurl.com/kk8aucx

Absolutely. England were robbed in the 98 WC under him and could certainly have gone onto at least, the final. He always seems to be linked with jobs but any reason I give as to why none of them have materialised would only be conjecture. Perhaps chairmen are put off by the fact he hasn't managed in the PL for quite some time ala Curbishley?

Ali Mac has told a fan that he "understands the fans frustrations, and isn't sitting back doing nothing". He wasn't prepared to go into any detail but added, "call me in 3 weeks and we will see if you're still not happy".

Don't know if that means bringing in someone to help Jol or replace him. However, it is encouraging that some sort of 'rescue plan' is in motion.

PS As a point of reference, the home game against Spurs is 3 weeks on Saturday. In between that we have Swansea (H) on 23rd November and West Ham (A) on the 30th.

the way I see it, jol has two games left, we have no breede who now needs a operation on his nerve problem, no good defenders, a midfield not working as a unit, and a striker who cant be bothered, god help us, its going to be a long month

That's the way I read it too. The results against Utd/Liverpool were unimportant, and Jol will be given two relatively 'comfortable' games to show he still has the stones for the job. If things don't go as planned, we get a new manager, if things do go as planned, we've picked up a few points. According to AM, this will make everyone happy.
