Full marks to the Celtic Board for taking the only sensible approach
to remembrance weekend ( which it now seems to have become ) and
allowing the Celtic players freedom of choice in the wearing of the
Poppy on Saturday. This seems to have been an excellent approach to
the thorny problem and can't leave the club in any way responsible .

You remember the days of minute silences and no poppies on football shirts....what changed?

Politics...it became a vote winner by making the poppy an issue rather than personnel preference.

Or maybe the Poppy made a comeback because people were actually dying in Wars again?

Not that i'm convinced the Poppy ever went away in the first place.

No, its never gone away, but it has become something else...

I saw a pic yesterday of a group of masked EDL supporters making Nazi salutes....and one of them wore a poppy

What was going through his mind when he purchased his poppy?

I saw a poll of Scots that showed only 37% of those who donated to Poppy Scotland would wear the Poppy

I think it's become/becoming a negative symbol through no fault of its own/Poppy Appeal

The EDL will attach themselves to anything that suits them, the Poppy is not the only victim.

As long as people donate I don't care, they - same as everyone else - is free to make their own choice. I don't wear one 24/7 or even every day but I wear one when I remember to. That may only be 3 days in total but it's the donation that really matters so that's why i'm delighted Celtic donated money.

I bought a poppy this year. I was not making a "political statement" of any description, it reminds me of my two grandfathers who served in WW2.

And I'm bored ****ing senseless of the absolute dicks on both sides who try and dictate that wearing one/not wearing one is pandering to warmongers/disrespectful to our brave boys. **** the lot of them.

And since when did it have anything to to do with football? Pay your respects (or don't bother) on remembrance sunday at 11.00am. Not on saturday 9th november at 3.00pm with 40,000 other fuds with a ****ing Tifo, cannons and abseiling marines <doh>

    On this particular subject?

Aye, ****ing right I am. For years now, it's been hijacked by ****ing dickheads on both sides - and it's getting worse each year. And don't get me started on the "celebrations" planned for next year's 100th anniversary of the start of WW1 <doh>

I know, i've been through it when I had no choice but to wear one for 20 years, never really bothered me in fact I was quite proud of it, but i'm the same as you, i'm fed up people moaning about it one way or another every ****ing year when somone or something does not wear one. <laugh>

I think it is only right that people are allowed to make their own mind up about
what charities they support . I think its a bit much the people who buy the poppy
once and keeps it safe and brings it out every year and proudly displays it . If
song singing at football matches is censured , especially freedom songs of a
near -by nation, that has played and continues to play a major role in the success
of Celtic are banned, then surely the demonstration of having given financial aid
to the members of an army, some of whom murdered Celtic fans in Ireland should
not only be banned at Celtic Park but all football grounds .
We don't need symbols of giving to charities spoiling the atmosphere .
I was in England for a few days recently and I only saw one person wearing the poppy.
