Genuinely thought it was well presented and had a great message to the video especially at the end 'Say Yes to Freedom' looking over the Humber. For all of us no longer in Hull, makes you miss the place
As in, it's pretty much horrendous to all five senses. Nah, only messing, it was my adopted home for five years, it's got some really awesome bits, especially the Highcross and Cultural Quarter. The Curve is a really impressive piece of kit.
I've just noticed its by Matt Stephenson, I used to work with him. Anyone remember him from his HDM column?
Blimey, him! He hated Hull and f*cked off after he got too many angry emails responding to his puerile 'column' in the HDM! He's from Scunthorpe ffs
A very slick and professional video. Not sure how you can be from Albania and Hull. Perhaps that carwasher means he came from Albania and now lives in Hull. You can't be from both places. A minor quibble, I would like to have seen a bit more of the raw, earthy belly-laugh priceless humour and gravelly accent, footage of Bob Carver's shop near market place....the real Hull we all know but never gets captured by the Avenues set. These people are the real spirit of Hull not some museum lass from Edinburgh. Nevertheless, a very strong vid which will take some beating.
FFs Aggers we agree on summat. Aye and Stephenson is a **** too. Didnt he come out with some **** about muslims not killing us in this country after 11/9??
As far as I remember, Bob Carver's is quite capable of introducing a culture into the body of an unwary. In short, it's not really the kind of 'culture' that the judges will be looking for, is it?
The Freedom Festival is just 'bused-in for the weekend' culture though. Lie Hull Fair, they set up their stall, take the money then **** off again. Fair enough, that's what they do.....but any city can import 'culture' for a weekend in that way. Just as anyone down Humber Street can declare themselves to be a 'poet' or an 'artist'. It's no measure of merit or worth is it? We will never be a big enough city to compete culturally with Manchester and Birmingham, all we can do is show we are alive here, we've got a long and impressive artistic history, and we're criminally overlooked by the ephemeral and superficial turds who call the shots of what's trendy and happening. I'd like to see more made of our whaling history- the hardiness of those men and their ships trapped in the ice in the arctic circle for weeks/months is jaw-dropping. But I suppose being cruel to leviathans is not 'in'. It's certainly more impressive than walking up and down Humber St with a H&S certified torch of Freedom.
I haven't watched it yet but is that the worst thing you could pick out? They're both really impressive...
Just a wonder Fosse and Andy... what should we expect to see in your cities' video? And if it's Ylvis I think i'll avoid it.
