I just hope we don't do like you with all due respect..<ok>

To be honest, only the most optimistic United fans will believe we will be as successful as in the last 20 years. 50% even 25% of that success will do me...:) but I do not believe (and hope) we will do a Liverpool with no title over so many years.

I am sure many of local writers would had their theories about why Liverpool have not won the title since United won it but did Fergie being who he is have anything to do with it I wonder?

Neither, you, me or the man in the moon will know the true answer to that question regarding Ferguson

  3. It was more to do with another ferocious Scot than Fergie

Don't agree. Whilst Souness's tenure can't be looked back on as a success, he took over a club that was already dissolving. When he came as a player just to be a Liverpool player was the highest accolade but when he returned as a manager Liverpool players wanted out!

I think you have to look towards the board to see why the decline happened.

I remember Souness being a very good midfielder but very average manager. BUT surely he cannot be blamed for 2 decades without the title. In what way can he be blamed? Selling and buying the wrong players has been done by many of your managers...

  11. He played for us before my time but I've watched many clips of his playing days and I don't look as him as a **** manager over great player. I see him as a Liverpool great that ****ed up because he tried to hard to follow in Kenny's footsteps in becoming one of the top Liverpool legends <ok>

  12. He tried to do things to quickly. However, I'll take your word on it as you will remember better than me. I was only ten when he took over as manager <ok>

Don't be too sure about that! The one thing that I do now accept is that I've forgotten more than I now know. :D

Many factors led to our decline (relative to where we were at). The European ban hit all clubs but LFC never got their head around how much because we continued to win everything domestically. Hillsborough and even more so the aftermath ripped the footballing heart out of the club, Souness then turned a good team into an awful one, the owners at the time had no foresight as to what the initial Sky deal meant and watched Old Trafford being redeveloped up the road into a giant stadium and didn't think it would impact us by not doing anything to expand Anfield.

A word of warning to you though Smithy, the bigger they are the harder they fall. Uniteds fortunes are now in the hands of shareholders who don't care one jot for the club. If the share price starts to drop dramatically (and it will one day) what happens then? Two or three years out of the CL could cripple you.

Are these the difference between last season and this at this point or the difference between the points won against the same teams?

If based on time, then it was to be expected for United as they faced more difficult matches this season. But if against the same opposition then United seems to have gone backwards quite a lot...

Can't be the first surely as Arsenal weren't 3 points better off last season and City 3 worse. The second's more feasible but Arsenal beat us this season whereas we got a draw there last year. Hmmmm.

It is the second (inc swapping Cardiff, Hull and Palace for Wigan, Reading and QPR)

Biggest surprise to me was City who despite being sh**e away from home have still taken more points overall this season!

Lost at home to WBA and away at Pool and City, having won all three last year. 9 points dropped
Drew at home to Southampton having won last year. 2 points dropped
Won at Swansea having drawn last year. 2 points gained
Drew at home to Chelsea having lost year. 1 point gained.
    Other results same

    Overall 8 points dropped
