Think I should take a share of blame in the confusion, Captain. Anyway, as rosc said they are both tidy players. However, Alex Brister is a right back. He returned from a lengthy injury last season but is now struggling to get into the U21 side because of the form of Josh Passley. Jack Grimmer can play right back as well but his main position is CB. Captain of the team that won the Dallas Cup and in his second season captaining the U21s. He's the player we're both talking about.
I've heard Grimmer being likened to a young Bobby Moore although I assumed it was a massive over exaggeration
Maybe not Bobby was likened to Duncan Edwards, But my tip is still Emersan H,who reads the game, but at the moment a wee bit on the short side 5.5 /6
The point is, would you play them now? It could go well or it could be a complete train crash. Is it the best option? What's the point of having all this 'talent' if we don't play them.
It is definitely a tough decision... I can see a few positives on this but conditions need to be right. Conditions: 1. Jol out. The next manager should be able to work closely with the academy and not meeting them every 14 days... 2. Solidify the defence. This will ensure that we will not conceede silly golas and give more confidence going forward. 3. Drop Berba from captain. Unless he is willing to accept mistakes from youngsters and others around him and try to help them improve there is no point being there. Discipline yes, tandrums no... Positives: 1. I want to believe that the majority of the fans will not react badly to some of them having an "awful" first experience. If this forum is a representative sample most of us would give more chances to Mesca, Kaca, even Briggs compared to Riise. 2. Will make the dead-wood (Berba, Taarabt, Ruiz, Riise, etc.) to realise that their end is near and their market value will plummet as failures. Might actually motivate them... Not sure if they actually care how they play as they feature anyway. Potentially one of the reasons why training is so poor. Which other player is going to bust a gut if they know that no matter what some of the starting 11 are given. 3. Still time to make the introduction. Drop the flops and bring in the youngsters in. If I take anything from the game against Leicester is the fighting spirit of the so called second team. Had the keeper and defence been up to the mark we would have the league cup to give those youngsters extra time...
Berbs as captain is a dissaster, while BH is out the armband should in my opinion go to Scott Parker who seems to have more concern and motivation
So Drop Berbatov. Make Parker captain. Drop Blunderos. Put Grimmer in. Amorebiata to go full back. Parker sit in front of defence. Improve fitness and fast. Try more youngsters. Isnt this what Paul Lambert did at Villa?
We don't have Benteke either! It still goes back to square pegs and round holes. Play your best players in their preferred position and fit some youngsters in around them. Would that work?
Steady on Craving, with clear strategic thinking like that, you might find yourself in the running to take over from Jol yourself.
