What with MP's claiming energy charges for stables these people really do take the piss. When I worked in Local Govt,any false claim for expenses was treated as "gross misconduct" any could and did result in dismissal. These seem to be able to make a garbled apology about not understanding the system etc and get away with it.
Not great when the head of an organisation flouts the rules. Let's be honest in any organisation your travel to your principal place of work from your home is not allowable. Absolutely standard practice and anyone in senior management will know this. If you have ever driven a company car you know that these miles are not allowable for tax purposes and companies do not pay mileage for them. Given his position and what he has done this really should be a resignation job in my opinion.
£70,000 a year, in the old days serving in the police force was an honour, it wasn't about the money or building a career it was about serving the people.
I voted against him at the election for PCC because I felt he had far too cosy a relationship with Norfolk Police (having previously chaired the Police Authority). He made a big thing of "continuity" and his good relations and experience with the force. The PCC is meant to represent our interests and hold the police to account, and IMO there's a lot wrong with Norfolk policing. What was needed was a more independent-minded Commissioner prepared to shake things up where such is needed and call a halt to the remorseless rise of policing costs to cover all those new buildings and the pen-pushers occupying them.
I know it gets said all the time that these people are out of touch but seriously how the **** could they possibly understand what it is like for a family struggling to pay for food/fuel when they are getting the taxpayer to pay for the leccy for the ****ing stables of their ****ing second home?!? How many people have a second home let alone can afford to keep horses? And yet these people need us to pay their energy bills for them?!? I'm not really badly off but it makes me ****ing sick! Rant over!
That's a lovely, romantic idea fella - not sure how far back in history you're talking though as I don't imagine that has been the case for a long, long time. By the way these PCC's can hardly be compared to your average bobby in terms of serving the people, I've never understood the need for them and can personally think of 70,000 ways that money could be better spent in each force around the country
They should just take their expenses away. If they can't use it for what it supposed to be used for then they don't deserve it. Every MP caught using these funds for preposterous things should on longer get them. Simple as that.
I have a slightly different view to some of the above.For thirteen years we had a really excellent MP in Bob Blizzard who was 100% committed to working for the constituency and didn't milk the expenses.In 2010 he was turned out by a few hundred votes and our current MP is of the chocolate teapot variety.The current feeling amongst the electorate is that Bob will be welcomed back with open arms in 2015.They are not all as bad as each other.

Government should be forcibly constituented from exactly proportions of % that make up the population. We have the data from the last census. Representatives should never be career politicians they should be co-opted based on meritocracy and then voted in at local level under full pr none of this fptp garbage. Also voting should be mandatory although you can spoil your vote if you like. I think our political system is outdated and in MAJOR need of an overhaul. It's all related to what family you come from and what university you have been to. The house of lords is SO detached from the people that pay their wages that it should just be scrapped, it is no longer relevant to today's society and to the people of this country. Just think of the money that could be saved by doing this. Scrap it and instead have a house of "normal people" that get paid a decent salary that can push motions through or block things, not some rich ****er who's only worry is clocking in for a few minutes to get paid. I am not left or right I just think the whole system is incorrect and massively biased towards the rich and wealthy who have totally lost touch with the real problems that normal people face. Have you seen question time at the house of commons? It's like a load of rich arrogant arseholes playing oneupman-ship at our expense. The problem is that no political party will instigate an INDEPENDENT review of the political system in this country because they all have their snouts in the trough and don't want to rock the boat.
