Should this matter? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24905905 He who pays the piper obviously calls the tune - but is this a discord?
If he considers the word 'city' to be lousy and common, what on earth must he think of the word 'Hull'?
I read a very rich Watford supporter was considering a similar thing. He was to buy Luton Town and change the name to Pub League Scum before closing them for ever.
Stevenage were allowed to drop Borough from their name when they got promoted to the FL but kept it as their nickname, and Dr Allam could possibly say that the FA have set a precedent. The comment by the Stevenage chairman, Phil Wallace, about the change was along the lines of "Stevenage Borough makes us sound like a non-league club, we aren't now and have no intention to be ever again which is why we have made this change".
Watford Warriors.....nah...... El Wafordini....nah...... Watfordississississississississimo.....even worse...
Its a marketing tool to make them appear more attractive around the world but lets be honest with respect to Hull is that likely to happy even if they suddenly had great success? Plus its money wasted to an extent that could be spent helping Steve Bruce on the pitch...
Didn't the owners at Newcastle try to re-name the ground, but it made no difference to the fans who continued with the St. James Park and eventually it returned to that?
They did indeed, but it's been SJP since before my generation and it'll be SJP after my generation. It'll never be the Sports Direct Arena.
