So it seems the nugget is going to Leicester according to the snooze... http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/p...ches/blues_star_man_poised_for_exit_1_2757263 To be honest, this is unexpected. I thought he would have gone to a prem side, a team like Swansea, but hey ho. IMO, he is a very good championship player, but he cant cut it in the prem. So this move actually is good for him, but not for us, because you just know that he will score against us this coming season, both home and away! We will just have to finish above leicester then to prove him wrong, but good luck to him!
Well, you can't argue about his work rate, you can't argue about his poor strike rate - always a case of 'this will be HIS season', so. it's best all round that he moves on. Pity, couldn't help liking the lad - good luck David....... ...
Nugent can run rings around a back four but has trouble finding the back of the net. Still, if the article is true I'll be sad to see him go.
Looking at a positive though, it frees up a whopping 25k p/w, which would massively help. But you're right, it would be sad to see him go. He was treated like total sh*te during his first 3 seasons with us, so who can really blame him??
Think its unfair to say he has trouble finding the net, maybe in the premier league, where he was never really given a chance by us anyway. He did well for burnley when he went there. At this level he has proven he can score goals, 14 last season, that may not be enough for some people but for most of the season he was playing left wing, and playing off dave kitson who can't win a header or hold the ball up to save his life. I think Nugent will do well at Leicester if the news is true, and can see them getting promoted. I am sad to see him go, especially as now all we have upfront is Kitson, can he please go as well??
Yep, was treated really badly before Cotts came in, which is unfortunate because he COULD have been quite good in the Prem had he been given a chance in a decent team (which we did have in his first season!). Oh well, as said, frees up a big chunk of wages, which could be stretched to cover 2 strikers, especially if they're from lower leagues, so this is probably good for us IMO! Other positive to take from the article is the Shackell bid. Shows we have some money, and he's a good defender. Hope we get him
Point taken. Still, my lasting memories of Nugent are doing everything right outside the box. Inside he would tend to send the ball into the heavens or, like in the Pompey Man U match in his first season, somehow manage to trip over himself.
Yeah to be honest that is true, but its got to be remembered that Harry Redknapp completely shattered his confidence when he was still only quite young. I think his confidence has grown this season and this has been shown by the fact that his finishing has improved. Can you tell i'm a Nugent fan??
My happiest memory of him was the superb 'cross/shot' at Wembley in our first F A Cup Final against Cardiff, when he came on late in the game. He was always smiling, but sometimes I wish he wouldn't have, especially after missing a great chance of scoring ! Having said all that, he will be missed !
Or Jordan Rhodes from Huddersfield. 23 goals last season, would be going for less than a £1 million. Both would be worth a a shout if the Russians have given Cotts some cash.
I think it's a shame to lose him as he is a top notch striker at Championship level. However, if, as mentioned above, he was on £25,000 a week then it makes sense as that is enough wages for 2 or 3 decent Championship players.
It was always coming. I wish him well but I'm not going to lose too much sleep over losing him. He was very wasteful in front of goal, his first touch was awful and his perception was not much better. He did OK last year but with a little more class he could have been so much more. He'll be the last of the old big earners gone, so at least it will free up funds for next seasons intake.
I think he's on £15k Lawrence is probably on around they same, and I imagine they're the 2 highest earners.
I remember Kanu renogotiated his contract. It was something like: before (this time last year) he had one year left and was being paid 30k p/w. It got renegotiated to 10k p/w for a 3 year deal. It worked out he would be paid the same, but was contracted for longer.
Yeah 10k sounds about right. I thought Lawrence and Kitson were both on around 20k: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/new...d-Liam-Lawrence-from-Stoke-article575765.html
Ian Hume run us ragged at fratton last season. Works his socks off and I presume he would come pretty cheap. Definitely worth a punt in my opinion!
