I'm not sure what you mean by this- are you saying three is the number of defeats for the champions?
In that case city have already **** it.
No, in recent years I think it's averaged at about five. My point is that they don't have too much leeway if they're hoping to get themselves back up to the top.

  3. I seem to recall pundits etc saying that the champions usually only lose about three games a season. Five is probably more appropriate for recent season as the top teams have become poorer and the lesser team have got better making the league much more competitive.

With Man City having already lost four, I think they have indeed "**** it" already <ok>

    I've just looked it up.
Chelsea won the 09/10 season with six defeats, so it can be done. However, I think the competition is greater at the moment, City themselves weren't strong contenders at that time.

The fact is teams that win leagues put together runs of lots of games without defeat (winning the majority). Who has a squad/management set up at the moment that will do this? It's really hard to call but I just can't see it from us. I can see us putting good runs together but those kind of league winning stretches with constant good results we just aren't strong enough for (IMO). However we can definitely compete a lot closer to the top this year partly because we've improved and partly because others aren't hitting top form. I think the league winners may well lose 6 or 7 games this year so we shouldn't be a million miles away at least.

Of all the top teams you could usually lay your hat on to go on a 10 or 12 game winning streak it just doesn't look as likely this year. United, City and Chelsea are the likely candidates simply because of the mental side of things but even they look great one game and equally as poor the next, Spurs are solid but so far dull as ditchwater, Arsenal will put good results together but still seem to have a mental fragility at times. Everton and Saints can't sustain a title charge (as I suspect we will struggle to) but may well be in the mix for CL places because they have very good first teams allied to a bit of squad depth and decent managers.

This year EPL is the most unpredictable for years, though still early to say. As you can see, anyone can beat any one. I think it is the open title race for years.
Second coming of Jose Mourinho is not kicking off like the first. Manchester City with all their spending were unable to score at the Stadium of Light.
Please do not be surprised if there is a dark horse in the race for the title. "Bloody football", Sir Alex Ferguson I quote.<ok>

It is an interesting season for sure.

December is absolutely huge for us.

  19. I've always maintained that December is the only bit that matters when it comes to discussing the advantages and disadvantages of the fixture list. Ideally, you don't want to be facing the big clubs over the Christmas period as they have the squads to deal with the demands. If you have a set eleven with backup players (us, Everton, Southampton) then you don't want to be facing these teams who will have fresher legs on the pitch.
