Club Statement: Club Chairman Dr. Assem Allam recently met with representatives of various supporters’ groups, where opinions surrounding the name of the club were aired. After hearing the representatives’ position, Dr. Allam explained his decision to remove ‘AFC’ from the club’s name, citing the need for the club to improve its global appeal and become self-financed in order to survive with or without him. He said: “Having been deprived of opportunities to acquire the stadium freehold, which would have enabled us to create the infrastructure in the surrounding area, we will now need to focus on generating commercial income from elsewhere. A shorter club name will hopefully enable us to do so, with a stronger, quicker marketing impact all over the world.” The club name is currently Hull City Tigers, after it was shortened in the spring of this year. However, as a result of the greater exposure generated from playing in the Barclays Premier League, a further shortening of the club name is under review with a decision likely to be made early next year. Dr. Allam’s preference for the club name remains ‘Hull Tigers’, as he has previously stated, but he has also explained that the club will first ensure that a shortened name will provide the anticipated global marketing impact. The representatives at the recent meeting asked about the possibility of any alternatives, and Dr. Allam strongly welcomed further engagement with them on this. He said: “I believe the representatives at the meeting accepted that there is a wider issue at hand, in that we need to ensure the club can sustain itself through commercial income.”
Lol He is a conniving stubborn little **** isn't he. Fair play to him to be honest. I know it's not funny but I'm laughing at how he's played us all.
At least all this 'one's the company name, one's the playing name' bollocks has now been put to bed once and for all.
NO IT' NOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The company that owns the club is named Hull City Tigers Ltd The club is still Hull City A.F.C. and cannot be changed without the permission of the F.A.
There wouldn't be any daft penalities like a points deduction or whatever would there? I imagine some pretty hefty fines?
Is that the FA that can do **** all about it?? http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2013/jan/17/fa-birthday-sober-150th-anniversary From the article by David Conn Last February, in response to the government's call for firmer governance and an enhanced role for supporters, the FA's chairman, David Bernstein, formally agreed that the FA would give up any influence at all over "club ticket prices, commercial and financial matters, club business and operating issues", and even the distribution of money through the game. It was an extraordinary, historic surrender, the FA ceding all responsibility for these key areas to a Premier League whose top clubs are owned by individual billionaires from overseas. This lamentable vacation of the FA's duties could be chalked up as a victory in an administrators' turf war by the Premier League's chief executive, Richard Scudamore, but the Premier League would itself benefit from more solid governance.
Ian Dennis ‏@Iandennisbbc The prospect of Hull City changing their name to Hull Tigers in the new year is a worrying thought for ALL fans.
I think you'll find he's breached FA rules and that's something they can definitely do something about.
True and I'd suggest impossibility rather than difficulty. This was always going to be a tough one to succeed with no change!
