I mean Nuge may have lost focus, i don't disagree that he hasn't been prolific in front of goal this season, but hes one of the only strikers we have that has the composure to place a ball into the net without using the hit and hope method. Schlupp had a great end to last season (just like Danns did the season before btw) but is nowhere near a solution to an improved goal scoring rate, hes as hit and hope as Dyer is.
... but that's just it mate ... he rarely shows such composure ...not nearly as much as he should given his experience in the game ... Jeff has a lot of learning to do I'll admit... but is still young enough to do so (he could do with being coached by someone like Tony Cottee) ... which is the real difference between him and Lloyd and also Nuge ... they've been in the game a lot longer and are unlikely to lose bad habits at this stage ... Nuge has had two headed chances on the six yard box in the last two games and missed the target ... whichever way you look at it that is very poor from a professional striker ... I have nothing personal against David Nugent - I think he is a fair all round footballer (as I've said before on here more than once) but as a striker he just isn't top drawer ... in open play he probably nets one in five / six of his good chances and quite often doesn't even get them on target / force a save ... and I've never been blinded to players failings merely because they play for MY club ... I'n my time watching football I've seen many natural finishers and Nuge just isn't one ... which is why I've questioned using him as one from time to time ... I do think he is a useful midfield option and that he brings creative possibilities ..
For me, Wood is the best finisher at the club. Everytime he has had the chance this season he has scored (however fortunately). He had an awful Feb-May but I think he's back and should be starting ahead of Nuge IMO.
