One of the hallmarks of any good manager is their success in the transfer market. I'd say our last 4 managers have been fairly disastrous: Keane - York, chopra, stokes, harte, Mcshane, Ferdinand, McCartney, Healy...............not to mention 9mil on a goalkeeper Bruce - Wickham (8 mil), Bramble, Paulo da Silva, Kilgallon, Turner, Muntari, Angeleri, Riveros, Elmohamady O'Neill - Danny Graham ( no need to go any further) PDC - a list to long too mention, although it could be said that Di Fanti was responsible. Which brings me to the thing that's fascinating me at the moment, who does Gus have in mind ? Anyone got any idea what his track record is like or who he might be looking at or who you would like to see him bring in ?
Easy to pick out the worst one's, but no mention of the like of Mig, Sess, Bent, Gyan and co. Poyet may find himself a bit restraint in the transfer market, depends if ES is feeling generous, and what kind of league position the club is in.
Theres defo one he'll go for, his old captain, sorry cant recall his name, a midfielder I think. Raved about him. Hope he doesnt go for Adebeyor though. ES has to give him enough to strengthen for the run in, but hes been tightening the purse strings recently, and selling to buy. The other question is, who will go in January?
Craig Mackail-Smith looked awesome a couple of seasons ago and clubs agreed a deal for him to go to the PL close season before last season I think but he turned it down to play football as he would be at best a squad player wherever it was. He seems to have not been talked about a great deal since then so not sure what happened to him
IMHO 9 mil on a goalkeeper wasn't disastrous its was just unfortunate considering that Gordon had plenty of injuries ... IMO Gordon was a top class keeper
Already been claims about his son Diego Poyet...supposed attacking midfielder for Charlton Would argue possibly GK - Still not fully convinced by either Westy or Mannone LB - Whilst bardo is doing a fine job atm, he still has to cut back onto his right foot Winger - Either side, Johnson has looked better on the left, Giacc has came back into the mix and is playing alright but is roaming more Striker - depends on Wickham really, Ji looks as if he no longer has a future at the club unfortunately After them possibly a CM to replace Catts/Larsson as we need a bit of class in that area Also would pay any transfer clauses for Ki and Celutska
Larssons finally being moved onto RM again and its working wonders. he was always good for us under bruce playing RM. I never want to see him in this CM role again, he was only moved there through an unfortunate string of injuries and was never put out wide until recently. His right foot is awesome for crossing and long passes, he doesn have time to play to HIS strengths in the middle. Kept him wide and im happy for him to be our first choice RM
I think we will get a couple of players in I wouldn't mind Danny Rose Permanent deal Jack Rodwell (Loan) The Brighton players mentioned were Liam Bridcutt & Leonardo Ulloa I don't know anything about them
I would like us to buy a quality midfield playmaker and a proven goal scorer. Who will we sell go? well Wickham, and those out on loan now and at times I have argued that we should sell Johnson. As well as raising funds this should free up the wages % somewhat/
I've read some posts from Brighton fans indicating he is their best player... came up through the Chelski academy... Plays holding midfield. Palace tried to buy him at close of the last window for £1.75m but Brighton rejected. Rumored to be on Poyet's short list... Looks a decent player, but unproven at the prem level.
Think the OP was a bit harsh on Roy Keane, as we were heading for the third tier when he joined and couldn't have been an attractive option for decent players. But as for Poyet, a LB, creative MF and striker are the first 3 on my shopping list...
