Both parties seem happy to continue for another year. Could this mean that we see no driver changes in the top tier?
Massa will possibly leave. That's a change. And Webber has admitted he can't use these tyres, so his season is already over effectively. Webber has no chance of winning with Vettel as team mate, so why stay?
I'm sure he likes fighting up at the front, gets a few podiums and the odd win here or there. Why wouldn't he want to stay at Red Bull?
He's probably hoping that, given the input he'll have for next years car, that he can iron out the problems that's he's having with the tyres this year.
There were rumours that Webber would join Ferrari. Furthermore, if Red Bull and McLaren both keep their line ups of proven race winners it leaves Ferrari with a hell of a gamble if they take on someone else who may not necessarily consistently bring those WCC points in. Better the devil you know etc...
I think Ferrari recognise the need to have youth now, hence the driver academy. If Massa goes, either Perez would move into the seat, or they'll bring Jules Bianchi up into F1, so they can learn from Alonso. That'd do most guys a world of good, learning off of Fernando
Indeed it would. Who knows, perhaps Ferrari may be willing to lose a constructors place for a year or so whilst they train someone up. Do they need the money?
They'd still finish 3rd, with Alonso challenging for the title. And whoever the number 2 is, they wouldn't be so rubbish that they wouldn't score points. If that's the case, then it'd be a great use of a year, to teach the new guy
Sergio will be 22 next year, so he's a very young driver for a Ferrari seat. Yes I want him in a Ferrari because I rate him to be the next "Vettel" but maybe it's a good idea for him to stay IF! Kamui leaves for a bigger team. Sergio needs the experience of leading a team for at least a year, so when he does jump to Ferrari at age 23, he would be ready to size up a "silverback" Alonso.
The title says: "Webber set to stay at Red Bull next year" I interpreted things differently to be honest. It's fairly obvious that Webber has been underperforming in the RB7, so I can't understand how Horner would be happy with Webber. Unless, Webber is expected to be the No.2 driver, in which case he's doing his job perfectly - taking points off rivals but Vettel is always ahead of him in the race. We know that Red Bull are building their team around Vettel, so it suggests that the second seat in 2012 will go to someone willing to play second fiddle to Vettel and rack up a few podiums along the way. I know two drivers on the grid who would be more than happy go along with that - Buemi and Algersuari.
Indeed, but are either of them good enough? I guess when you're in the fastest car, you look better than you are, so thy might do better
Idd that's true, but all 3 of the "top three drivers" have been given great cars and bad cars. They all did very well in great cars and did pritty average in crap cars.
They don't need to be good drivers, just decent ones - which I think they are. When they get in the Red Bull, the car will do a lot of the talking for them. Assuming Vettel, Hamilton and Alonso are the top 3: Alonso: Brilliant in 03, 04, 08 and even 09 - he put average cars in positions it should never be Vettel: Look at him in 2008 , and even his first race Hamilton: Fair enough he was average with a crap car, but he only had that opportunity for 9 races in his F1 career.
Buemi's had an excellent season so far, he's been quicker than his team mate, solid in the races and no real mistakes to talk about. Him and Kobayashi have been the class of the midfield this season (di Resta would've been in there as well before his 'mare at Monaco), either of them would be deserving of a place in a top team, next season in my opinion.
This is why I can gladly put Alonso above Lewis and Sebastian "The Goldfinger" Vettel. He's prooved his metal in worse cars for numerous seasons over the likes of Vettel and Lewis. If anything after this year I WANT! Vettel to be in a few bad cars, it will help him in the long run when his reflexes arn't what they used to be.
Exactly, why not stay with the best car on the grid, why would a driver lessen the options, Webber would be crazy to leave Red Bull
The luck they had last year seems to have reversed, showing exactly how much better than Webber Vettel is. He's a number 2 driver, in every sense of the word.
Get Sebastien Buemi in the 2nd seat, impressed in his first season doing well now, and he looks like a moose, he's bound to get sponsorship from fellow moose's. Can't say he would do a worse job than Webber
