This result sucks, but it's not the end of the world, nor a defining one. Losing to Newcastle, Villa, West Ham, Cardiff and West Brom are though. Gotta pick it up again after the international break.
He is struggling because there is a lack of pace in our team and there are not nay runners going beyond the opposition for him to feed. At Madrid, he always had pace around at him. It's hardly shock that he looked stunning when Walcott was playing and making runs for him to pass to. Also we have a CF that lack pace, so Ozil can't use his vision properly in this team. Need Podolski and Walcott back and getting them making those runs. Maybe another reason why Gnarby should have either started or come on a lot earlier.
No, we never used to do that against the top sides. The importance of the first goal in a cagey match like this is huge. There are going to be a lot of knee-jerk reactions about, you have already seen a few, but this was a very even matched game of football played rather like Everton used to play. Destroy everything the opponent does and forget about trying to create anything, hope you get a goal from somewhere. You are going to get results in some games, but you can't win a championship like that. It is one thing soaking up pressure and catching people on the break, it is completely another to be booting the ball anywhere for the last 20 minutes, not playing the ball out of the back and coming forward in style. This was a mid-table team and they will celebrate their victory like one, not as a team that should be winning their home games. Second half, we were the only team trying to play football at all.
That wasn't it today though. He didn't make a single accurate pass that was more than a few yards. Every single one of his long crosses (some of which pretty obvious) were bad. He looked unfit to play.
That's a good analysis of the first half....but you're under valuing the quality of the second half. Both teams deserved a point....wake up you support Arsenal not Barcelona nor Real Madrid
We never used to dominate possession against Chelsea/ManU and still lose? WHAT? Almost every single game against them was pointless possession and then a Drogba goal, or counter attack from Man U to finish us off. Almost every single game. There is nothing new there.
As Gent said, today it looked different. He couldn't even pass 5 yards without making an error, i don't know if he was ill or just tired, but he was dire today.
Yes, he was not making passes like he normally does, but even today there was a lack of options for him to pick from. There is clearly a lack of variety in our game at the moment.
They are still not going to make it to top 4, so not too concerned about them A draw or a win for the Mancs was preferred by many of us. Now the gap is reduced to just 2points. So a key result for us, not really feasting on their victory.
Is toledo on drugs? Made us look like a midtable side eh? Remind us all of how many chances you had. We had all the attacking play ( wasnt too much) and gave you no time what so ever with the ball.
defensively, I did not think we did that bad today without Mert, I feared we would fall to pieces without him, but to his credit, Vermaelen was decent enough and kept his head for most of the game.
That chance when Rooney should have scored, I think it was more of the same though. Blanking out for a moment then having to catch up to make a **** clearance, which luckily didn't end bad.
Yeah we definitely weren't the better team today. We looked off the pace for alot of the game, ozil in particular looked very tired and thats probably one of the poorest games iv seen ramsey have all season. The fact is that we can have all the possession in the world but we didn't get in behind united at all today or get the ball or players close enough to giroud. Its a bit of deja vu, despite the fact that we weren't on our game, when we did put the pressure on man utd more in the second half there was nobody looking to run in behind. The obvious reason for that is we have walcott and oxo out and rosicky was ill so we lacked drive in the middle. When wilshere came on we started to force the game a bit more and gnabry should have been brought on earlier i thought. A really flat performance from us tonight and we lacked any real cutting edge.
Have to agree with that,a very much below par performance from our lads and if I was a utd supporter I would be more worried about the bigger picture.
That was it, though. That chance and the set piece. Now compare that to the last time TV and Kos played together in the league. It's a positive of sorts, because we can't rely on one single defender all season. He still needs to improve, but it was a decent performance for a CB who has not played much all season.
Going to be serious with you, this (to me) looked a LOT like some of the games we used to play against Everton. Take from that what you will. Another day, the ball will break for us and we will get the odd goal. Playing this kind of game, in this style makes it a lottery. And this time you won it. But this was not the way to win a title, not the way SAF used to do it, and not a dominant home performance from the champions.
