It's very difficult to pick 3 that stood out. So, rather than that, I will rule out the ones that are out of contention. Harper - lucky to stay on the pitch, distribution awful Elmo - woeful. justifiably subbed. along with Davies directly culpable for Lallana's soft goal. Davies - got a few good blocks in but gave the ball away too often. McShane - lots of energy but commits to early, including the 4th goal. Figueroa - uncomforable as a one of the three in the centre. better in the 2nd half, just. Rosenior - not a left back. undone by their right back for the 1st goal. like Figgey a bit better 2nd half. Meyler - ran a lot but lack of control gave the ball away too often. Huddlestone - ponderous today. caught in possession too often, including the start of the move for Southampton's 4th Sagbo - goal apart was isolated, failed to won a single header and didn't provide and lack of holding up had up on the back foot again. Which leaves: Livermore - who didnt have a great game, just not as bad as the 9 above Boyd - likewise Koren - who made a difference 2nd half when we went with 4 at the back.
Sagbo (for scoring) Boyd (for trying) Harper (for not getting sent off and really leaving us in the ****)
best assessment I've read - don't agree with Boyd though - he's too slow and gets beaten too easily, as a result he gives his marker too much space and more often than not is defending in space and ball watching - not impressed - we miss Aluko and especially Brady and we don't have any back up, Boyd and Meyler are not good enough, Quinn is better option but we desperately need someone with some grit in the middle as we don't have any ball winners
As I was at the match and don't get to many - (thanks for a memorable game City - but for all the wrong reasons!!) I will vote but it's a struggle to find much positive. Can only manage 2 Sagbo (for taking his chance so well) Koren. (we looked better when he came on, which isn't saying much) On the negative side, don't know why we are persisting with Graham, he looks unfit uninterested and a million miles away from scoring, Elmo is not firing, Thud looked slow and ponderous at times yesterday and I guess that's his drawback.
Tell me you are having a laugh, Harper had his worse game for us and was actually very lucky not to get a red card to go with the penalty.Elmo was part responsible for Lallana's goal as was the rest of the defence pussyfooting around him. 1 Sagbo 2 Livermore 3 Boyd
Sagbo was completely non existent apart from his goal. Koren best player when he came on by quite a long way. 1) Koren 2) Livermore 3) Boyd (think he is out of his depth at this level but at least put some effort in)
Got to say knew it was only a matter of time before Super Mac was found out. And yesterday was the day. When will Chester be fit?
One error of judgement is hardly being found out. The whole team fell victim to error of judgement yesterday. Macca is a capable defender these days.
Rosenior tried Sagbo tried Figgy tried The rest were very trying and looked ponderous and all at sea with Bruce's crazy defensive set up.Too many centrebacks spoiled the broth. Meyler in particular was way of the pace as he has been for most of his game time this season .He isn't premiership quality and he saunters around as if dosed up on valium.Re-organisation in the second half showed an improvement but the horse had bolted and there wasn't enough fire left in the boilers. Steve Bruce got it all wrong this time.
I'll give it to Sagbo. To be fair, that was a pretty good finish. He seems to be coming along nicely.
Yes Lallana was good and the driving force on the day. We made it easy for you first half but no complaints from me on the result. We shall be ok. It was of those days - sadly for us. MOM. 1) Sagbo 2) Rosenior 3) Koren
