Fantastic performance again and result. Nice to see us score a few goals today, and again we could have had a few more. Rickie was fantastic, Schneiderlin awesome, but Lallana was unplayable - simply stunning from him. Their goal was a mistake. End of. Both Artur and Victor could have done better, but it didn't cost us any points so we should just forget about it. Too many people got on the players backs after that goal went in around my area today. Sometimes I don't know what people expect. Also, another small negative. Can people not stay to the end of a game? Well, at least the majority of people please. We are winning 3-1, and people are leaving with 10 minutes to go. I know it happens at other grounds, but it really does frustrate me.
I was going to mention something of this nature last week against Stoke, but they scored within 13 seconds, so it didn't seem appropriate. Basically, at KO, Saints were in a 2-2-6 configuration with 6 players standing on the halfway line ready to push forward. Opposition teams must think we're crazy.
Some player ratings here - would pretty much agree with them entirely - http://www.goal.com/en-gb/match/109322/southampton-vs-hull-city/player-ratings
Tom Coull from the Saints media team says he remembers when everyone said we were crazy for our team-building exercise. He then posted a picture of the league table. If you want to see that team building again, click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3HT8vPLfC8&feature=youtu.be&t=21m17s
Forgotten that...media thought we were mad with fire walking etc. Nothing wrong with our team spirit, is there?
The philosophy is a simple one....play football as far away from your goal as possible, but to achieve this takes a mammoth effort from the whole team, defending from the front...It just makes me wonder whether Roy has picked up a few ideas on playing the high energy, press high game for England, he has picked 2 players that will press and harry the defence for 90 minutes in Adam and JayRod.
Loved it 2nd half when we attacked from a Hull corner.......a 6 man formation of red arrows bombing towards their goal!!!
Controversy/more to talk about. It was a great win for us, but it wasn't necessarily dramatic. The main talking points will be about our England strike force.
