Yes indeed, looks like it wasn't a so much a strop. but real pain, hope he is fit and ready for the next two big games.
Not that I'm complaining with his post-match compliments, which have been glowing, but how come Charlie Nicholas is always watching Saints on Soccer Saturday..? Where the hell is Matty..? He must be loving this.
He was far from brilliant today, gave the ball away cheaply on various occasions and was hugely at fault for the goal conceded. However, if he was genuinely injured then I suppose I can forgive him.
Lol. As an outsider and someone who comes from a different footballing culture, sometimes it's difficult for me to fully comprehand the prevailing mentality over here. A bunch of you reacts to a slightest player criticism as if someone is writing that player off for good. Obviously, he made a stupid mistake today and i'll acknowledge that and criticize him for that. But the next game he'll play a good match and i'll heap praise on him. I'm not that shortsighted to base my opinion of a certain player on a single match.
I don't think Wanyama was brilliant. But he wasn't bad either. He made a few mistakes - and one was costly - but that sense of presence in midfield is immense. I would like to see us play two premier games without him - because I think suddenly everything would look harder. He lets the rest play.
Indeed, supporters can get a little precious. I think Victor was the major player at fault in the incident today, but that doesn't mean that I think he's suddenly a bad player. He's super, and he'll learn from today's slip up and be better for it.
We react because we always get the same people all to ready to jump on a players back. It gets boring after a while specially the way we are playing atm.
There were no poor performers in that team today and a few outstanding ones, Rickie and Adam's link up play was superb and yet again a far post Rickie header produced a vital goal...interesting that Steve Davis got the nod to replace Big Vic rather than Corky, I think that Jack has been a bit unlucky to have not had much time on the pitch in the league games so far, but as spacedsaint says Big Vic's role as an "enforcer" who allows the rest to play is a crucial part of the way we play now.
More to the point, he made two mistakes.... OMG. He had a good game apart from the two mishaps. First game he is injured or suspended, we will have a huge hole in that midfield.
And it was JWP who took the deeper midfield role with Davis pushing on. I do think that's where his future will lie with us. If God forbid we were to be without Morgan I would not be shocked to see JWP get the nod ahead of Cork.
Many of them are writing him off for good. After a game in which he's made a mistake, or any game which we haven't won, you'll always see one or two people on this site claim that Wanyama simply isn't a good player. I'm pretty sure CardiffSaint (or whatever he's called) said that in more-or-less those exact words today. That's not a slight criticism - that's writing him off.
Fantastic to see us finally turn domination of possession into a big win. That's been my main concern with the side this season but we've steadily been improving for a few games now so it's not really a surprise and the 3rd and 4th goals were especially good to watch. I also thought Osvaldo looked good when he came on, which is another nice little positive. On Hull's goal... I agree it was largely Wanyama's fault but I would also say that passing to your last man when he's 20 yards from goal and has to move the ball on first time is not the most sensible idea. These things happen though and as others have said it's better to do it when you're 3-0 up than in a tight 0-0. I thought the same but for me the difference is that Gazzaniga's pass reached Yoshida at waist height, so it was much harder to control than Boruc's pass to feet today.
A year ago (tomorrow) we drew at home Swansea to move up to 19th, on 6 points. Next week it's "el sackio" at Loftus Road.
Ha, I was at both. Must say I much enjoy this season's results though. I feel so spoiled by this era.
